Friend of Sinners

[Announce Text] Mark 2:13-22
[Scriptural Introduction] Leper [Contextualization] [Creation of longing]
[Renounce text and Read]
[Pray]
[Introduction] [FCF]
[Proposition] Because Jesus came to call sinners, we must befriend the outcasts and sinners and call them to reject the old and hold onto the new.
[Main point #1] Because Jesus came to call sinners, we must befriend the outcasts and sinners.
[Sub point 1] Befriending the outcasts includes the socially rejected and spiritually offensive.
Outcast: Bible Passages to describing: “many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples.” , “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you.”
Outcast: Cultural explanation: Tax collectors worked for the Roman government, the enemies of the Jews, and made their living by charging a little more. Tax collectors would have collected tolls. It is like if Russia took over the US and some Americans started collecting taxes for them and in an immoral way.
Outcast: Meaning explanation: Single mothers, the drug addicts, the homosexual gone, those of false religions (other denominations or non-christian religions).
Sinners: group of criminals, prostitutes, groups of individuals leading rebellious lives.
[Sub point 2] Befriending the outcasts includes fellowship.
Hospitality: 1. Receiving others. Jesus condescendingly loved us. 2. Demonstrating. The benefitors become the benefactors. 3. Supporting. Those who preach need a place to stay. 4. Welcoming. Being missionaries without leaving your home.
[Sub point 3] Befriending the outcasts includes fellowship.

[Application] Are we, like Levi, inviting others into our homes?
[Main point #2] Because Jesus came to call sinners, we must also call sinners to Christ.
[Sub point 1] Calling sinners to Christ requires the knowledge of brokenness. [Illustration] It is very hard emotionally to show others of the need.

[Sub point 2] Calling sinners to Christ requires the knowledge of Christ.

[Application] Tell people in the first visit you would like to share the gospel with them.
[Main point #3] Because Jesus came to call sinners, we must call then to reject the old when accepting the good news.
[Sub point 1] Rejecting the old refers to all previous beliefs and religions.
Pharisees were not known as bad people. They were Jews who put up extra walls around the law for the common people. They would say 1. Don’t drink. 2. Attend services every Sunday. 3. Pray before every meal. 4. Read your Bible every day.
Pharisees wanted to continue to bind the Old.
[Sub point 2] Rejecting the old refers to all previous beliefs and religions.
