INTRODUCTION:
The “I Need Weed” Lady.
I was so flabbergasted that I lied unintentionally.
I did not, in my heart, wish her luck in getting weed.
Tongue — who can bridle it
Like riding a horse that doesn’t like you
when you want to stop, it keeps galloping on
when you want it to go, it does nothing
SINFUL SPEECH IN TWO DIRECTIONS:
Sinful speech (Father & Children) — “where there are many words..”
1. SAYING THE WRONG THING
Sinful speech (Father & Children) — “where there are many words..”
Sinful silence (Father & Son) — “like apples in silver…”
2. SAYING NOTHING
We’ve all said stupid things.
Probably pretty aware of that.
But I wonder how often we think about our speech sins of omission.
How often we’ve all failed to say good things, helpful things, important things in the right moment and time.

Just about every Sunday, Victor prays — forgive us for things we did, for things we did not do, for things we did not do with the right heart…
There are sins of commission & sins of omission
And that is an idea I want you to key in on.
Godly speech isn’t merely the absence of bad words, hurtful words, etc… Truly godly speech also involves the presence of good timely words.
And like I said a moment ago — the tongue is like an untamed horse — it goes when you don’t go — it doesn’t go when you want it to…
WHEN SILENCE IS SIN
WHEN SILENCE IS SIN
Gratitude —
Praise —
Encourage one another —
Evangelism —
Confess to one another —
Teach & admonish one another —
BUT THERE’S HOPE!
BUT THERE’S HOPE!

Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule in justice.
2  Each will be like a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.
3  Then the eyes of those who see will not be closed, and the ears of those who hear will give attention.
4  The heart of the hasty will understand and know, and the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak distinctly.
So on to our text — which shows the most unruly part of us — being tamed by the Spirit of God

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.
2  And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
3  And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.
4  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

7  And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
8  And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?
I. THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT
He tames the untamable
James 3:2
“…if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.
“…every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind,  8  but no human being can tame the tongue…”
II.
THE PERSONALITY OF THE SPIRIT
He talks… a lot!
Are you talkative or not?
Are you talkative or not?
The Holy Spirit is (see , (he will teach you).
— which is good help for introverts and extroverts

14:3, 18:26, 19:8, 26:26, Ph 1:14, , )
The Holy Spirit is involved in 4 kinds of speech crucial to the Christian…

III.
THE PROBLEM
III.
THE PROBLEM SOLVED
The power of the spirit to control what cannot be controlled.
That comes from his work on our hearts.
Jesus said in
You brood of vipers!
How can you speak good, when you are evil?
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
