Introduction

A Summary of Samson’s Choices

He chose a woman that pleased him.
His choice did not please his parents.
His choice did not please the Lord.
His choice did not please the Lord.
2. He chose to eat the honey from the carcass of the lion.
This was a violation of the Law of Moses for any Israelite.
This was a major violation of the Nazarite Vow.
3. He chose to disrespect his parents by giving them of the honey without revealing its source; implicating them in his violation.
The source of the honey was unclean.
Passing it to his parents made them unclean under Mosaic Law
4. He chose to become wealthy through deceit by putting forth a riddle he knew could not be answered.
What should have inhabited the carcass of the lion was flies and maggots. The presence of the bees and the honey were an act of divine intervention. No one could have rightly guessed this riddle without seeing him kill the lion and returning to the lion to see the scene of the bees and honey. It was an unanswerable riddle.
5. He chose to be rude toward his fiance.
6. He chose to kill 30 men to pay his debt for losing the wager of the riddle.
He killed in anger.
Let’s look at three things that define Samson’s Choices:

Samson’s Choices were governed by selfish desires

Samson’s Choices were a rejection of God’s Instruction

Samson’s Choices were a reflection of his Spiritual Condition

Application - God is still at work

Yet, God was at work in and through Samson to bring about His will in the Nation of Israel.
This is God; still at work in Samson’s life. What an amazing, unbelievable, awesome, gracious, loving God to work through Samson despite his spiritual failures and his disgraceful choices.
Despite your wrong choices and your spiritual failures God is still at work in your life.

Don’t let past failures keep you from making better choices going forward.

Don’t be deceived into thinking that God will not work through you because of past mistakes.
