Good morning, to every one. Happy sabbath to one and all
Today we continue in the series with Questions Jesus Ask.
Last week we look at the question of all Questions g
Who do men say i the son of man am?
today we will be looking at another mind buddling question that should cause us to think.
today our question comes to us from
Luke 6:46 NIV
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
lets read it together.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
this question was an indictment on those who called themselves followers of God but choose to do as they please.
lets look at the first part of this question " Why call me Lord Lord,"
in the bible it is filled with people who calls God Lord, but fails to obey his word.
this is what matthew 7:21 says.....
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
then there is another text that strikes right at the heart.
it says.........
25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
sometimes as Adventist we look at these text and point our fingers at people who are non-Adventist but if we look at the question that Jesus is asking we would recognise that Jesus is speaking to everyone.
Today the question is for us, why call me Lord, Lord and you are not willing to do what God has ask us to do.
lets look at some of the command that Jesus is asking us to do
1. Jesus is commanding us to seek first the wellbeing of his kingdom.
how do we know that we are seeking first the kingdom of God. we know we are seeking first the kingdom of God by our willingness to work for the master and going above and beyond our reach to build up the kingdom, many believe that because the church trust them with a responsibility of an office that's the only way we can seek first the kingdom of God. notice what the command is seek first. the phrase denotes going above and beyond for the kingdom or making the kingdom your top priority. anything else is second fiddle. your job, your family, your ego, material possessions.
following Jesus takes sacrifice.
listen to what )
says
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
The second command that Jesus is asking us to follow is......
2. for us to love one another
this is my commandment that ye love one another, great love than this that a man lay down ones life for a friend.
love is generally spoken about but seldom act upon, love is sang about but seldom seen. this is what Jesus says "by this will men know that we are his disciples if we have love for one another." not because we are Adventist, not because we see ourselves as the remnant church, not because we claim to keep all the ten commandments, jesus says by this: Love..if we don't have love we are like a sounding brass and loud symbol.
3. Jesus commands us to be witnesses.
says
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
being a witness is not a choice its an divine imperative. which means this has the same weight as the ten commandment.
Notice the command.
the first thing we should be doing is "GO"
the word go suggest action.
so if the command is to Go why are we not going.
NOTE: some hindrance to GO. failure to live the christian life.
failure in maintaining a vibrant relationship.
and not understanding the urgency of the time.
these are some of the different reasons for not obeying God's divine imperative.
3. church we all have a responsibility for each other salvation. Salvation is personal but it is also
all of us needs to surrender ourselves totally Christ. one day these same words will be re echoed in the judgment. listen to this passage of scripture
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
notice what God calls iniquity...God calls iniquity not living a life of obedience. the Bible says to him that knows to do right and do it not to him it is sin.
many on that day will get a sad awakening, when Jesus burst the eastern sky and we are not saved.
says
20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
