13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 peter
The Therefore refers to the great salvation blessings that Peter shows in verses 3 to 12
Minds that are fully alert and sober
Minds that are fully alert and sober
New Living Version says it this way
13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.
Prepare you mind for action and exercise self-control.
The truth is Action is coming whether we are ready or not.

Who here use to play hide and seek?
All the kids in our neighbour hood would on a warm summer night play hours of hide and seek. They were epic games that involved great skill and daring attempts to make it home with our getting caught.
You stand there and close your eye and count to 100 out loud - at the end the call of READY OR NOT HERE I COME would ring out though out the neighbour hood.
The thing is action comes and it is not a game but real life with eternal consequences.
Set your hope.
Set your hope.
You
Where is you hope set or anchored?
Where are our lives facing?
Where is the security of our lives?
16 People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.
17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,
20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrew 6:16-
Your strength is determined by what your life is founded on.

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Alert and Sober
Devour
The Devil seeks to devour.
Not entertain or improve your circumstances but to devour.
To take and use all he can.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
