Intro

If you have your copy of Scripture I would ask that you join me in Psalm Chapter 1. I titles this sermon, With Meditation Comes Blessings. Now when we hear the word meditation our mind often draws this picture of a bald guy, sitting in front of some candles with his eyes closed and his legs crossed, Am I right? We can probably all even hear some sort of humming noise and see hands help up like this. If that wasn’t in your head already I’m sure it is now.
With that being said, for those of you who have your scriptures open join me in the reading of God’s word.
Read Gods Word
When it comes to the book of Psalms, many of them will have a little title and tell us who wrote them. For example if you were to look at , your bibles probably say something like this,
“Confidence In Troubled Times.” Then it has a secondary title that says, A psalm of David when he fled from his son Absalom.
Now if you were to look at the other psalms the majority of them will have something along the lines of that, it might even just say Psalm of David.
But if you were to look at the first 2 psalms, they don’t have that secondary title. With that being the case nobody really knows who wrote this chapter. The general belief is that the first two chapters are connected and that David wrote them both.
Some would even go further and say that doesn’t have a title because it is acting as the title of the whole book of Psalms.
One commentator says, “What the foundation is to a house, the keel to a ship, the heart to an animal, the same is this Psalm to the whole book. It is the preface to the Psalter.”
Now that is a very big claim to make, but if Basil was confident in his quote. Let’s take a real deep look at this Psalm and see if we can see what makes Basil say such strong things concerning this passage.
Look into the passage.
Now tonight my message is might be a little different than usual. I want to really dive into this passage and find out what the author is really saying. We can see that the writer here, has many things to say just in these short 6 verses.
But the first thing we see him write is the word Blessed. Now right of the bat, that automatically draws our attention in. I’m willing to say that all of us in here like to be blessed. I know I love to be blessed.
