Faith In God
Faith is defined as belief with strong conviction; firm belief in something for which there may be no tangible proof; complete trust, confidence, reliance, or devotion. Faith is the opposite of doubt.
The Bible gives a short definition of faith in :
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (NIV)
What do we hope for? We hope that God is trustworthy and honors his promises. We can be sure that his promises of salvation, eternal life, and a resurrected body will be ours someday based on who God is. There are many promises in the Bible that we should depend on.
God is invisible. We can’t see heaven either. Eternal life, which begins with our individual salvation here on earth, is also something we do not see, but our faith in God makes us certain of these things. Again, we count not on scientific, tangible proof but on the absolute reliability of God’s character.
Faith means acting on what God says in spite of our opinions, our experience, our education. Faith is acting on the truth, whether we feel the truth or not, whether we like the truth or not, whether we agree with the truth or not.
Who or what we have faith in is revealed in our speech, behavior, and thoughts. Faith is very important in our relationship with God. The Bible tells us in Ephesians that “we are saved by grace thru faith”. Hebrews also tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please God.”
We are at the beginning of our growth in faith. We can grow, and should grow in faith as we mature in our relationship with God. The Disciples even ask Jesus to “increase their faith”.
Before we are saved, we depend on our own knowledge and decisions. After salvation our faith is in Christ. As long as we depend on our own understanding and reasoning, our faith will waiver. We have situations often where we don’t know what to do. We have situations where we have no control over. We have no power to change anything. When we are saved, we should release all things in our life to God.
Knowing that God is our loving Heavenly Father should make it easier to release control of our lives to Him. But we still have trouble letting God have our life totally. Our Scripture today is:
[7] (For we walk by faith, not by sight:
We would like to look at our faith. Why should we have total faith in God? What do we have that we can place our faith in God?
KJV
[7] (For we walk by faith, not by sight):
*****In our daily life, we look at all kinds of reasons and excuses to do or not to do something. Today we will look at why we should have total faith in God. We should have…..
I. Faith in God For Who He Is.
A. He Is God the Father, Creator. He is
the Father of all Creation.
Ø God spoke this world into existence.
Ø He is “I Am”
B. He is God the Son, Savior and Redeemer.
C. He is God the Holy Spirit, Comforter,
Helper, Teacher, Counselor, and Healer.
II. Faith In God For What He Says.
A. The Bible.
III. Faith in God For What He Does.
A. Loves us enough to
There will be times when our faith in God requires us to believe in the impossible. Sarah and Mary both experienced impossible circumstances. Though barren, at 90, Sarah became pregnant, fulfilling God’s promise as well as an oath (). Abraham’s descendants would multiply into countless millions. God’s promises bring hope.
In fulfillment of , the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary (). Through an innocent girl, the Savior of mankind entered the world. In every case, faith in God requires us to anticipate answers that are infinite and eternal -- believing all things are possible.
