Part 12: Jesus is all we have and all we need.
In this passage we read of another miracle of Jesus. (Also recorded by Matthew in chapters 15 & 16)
In this passage we read of another miracle of Jesus. (Also recorded by Matthew in chapters 15 & 16)
But much more than that; we see a picture of Jesus' response:
But much more than that we see a picture of Jesus' response:
to those in need and come to him
to those who see but struggle to understand and
to those who choose to remain blind.

To those in need, Jesus will have compassion (vv. 1-3)

Mark 8:1–3 NIV
1 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
He saw the need and he had sympathy for the crowd.
He saw the need and He had sympathy for the crowd.
He saw the need and He had sympathy for the crowd.
Jesus sees you, the individual, and has compassion for you.
Do you know that he knows you and he still, loves you and will provide for you?
Do you know that he knows you and he still loves you and will provide for you?
Food, shelter, strength.
Food, shelter, strength.
Matthew 6:31–33 NIV
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
He gives you himself.
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. ()

Psalm 37:3–4 NIV
3 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Forgiveness and redemption.
Why do you deserve this?
Why do you deserve this?

To those who see but struggle to understand,Jesus will do the impossible (vv. 4-5)

Mark 8:4–5 NIV
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?” 5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied.
Jesus fed 5,000 from a small lunch earlier. (Mark 6)
Jesus fed 5,000 from a small lunch earlier in his ministry. ()
Miracles for food
Healing for health
Sacrifice and death for eternal life.
esus waits patiently for his followers to catch up.
Jesus waits patiently for his followers to catch up.
We all struggle to remember the powwer Jesus has displayed in our lives.
We all struggle to remember the power Jesus has displayed in our lives.
We all struggle to remember the efforts he will take to provide for our needs.

Jeremiah 32:27 NIV
27 “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

To those who choose to remain blind, Jesus will deny. (vv. 11-14)

The Jewish leaders wanted a astrological or cosmic sign.
Even though Jesus had performed many “earthly” miracles like healings, food, raising the dead, they were not satisfied and denied his claims of deity.
Jesus refused to do more that he had already performed.
He knew they wouldn’t have believed him if he had.
Their problem wasn’t lack of facts but lack of faith.
Faith requires one to admit they need a Savior.
Jesus was very clear of the consequences of those who choose not to believe.
Matthew 10:32–33 NIV
32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
Jesus was troubled, because food, clothing, etc., is temporary, but he was offering eternal life but many were blinded by temporary needs.
Jesus was troubled, because food, clothing, etc is temporary but he was offering eternal life and many were blinded by temporary concerns.
Have you ever trusted Him as your only hope of heaven?

Take this with you...

Mark 8:14–21 NIV
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.” 16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.” 17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied. 20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?” They answered, “Seven.” 21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
Mk
His followers saw two similar miracles but continued to fret over their lack of food, but eventually came to understand. (vv.14-21) (Matthew 16:12)
But then they did after thinking it through.
Matthew 16:12 NIV
12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
We can learn what his followers learned, to grow in our understanding.
Jesus is patient and compassionate to those who are seeking him.
Which will you be today? A stranger, a follower or a critic?
His own followers were not able to interpret the sign they were shown upclose i.e. they still wondered how they would be able to eat with such little food.
Will you find your Salvation in Him today?
How will you respond to Jesus, now that he has responded to you?
But then they did after thinking it through.
Matthew 16:12 NIV
12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
