Sermon Tone Analysis

I. God has already provided all we need.

vs. 20

The Apostle Paul uses this phrase, “the God of peace” multiple times in the N.T.

(Romans15:33; 16:20; ; ) .

What’s most interesting is that no other write of the N.T. uses this phrase, unless Paul didn’t write the book of Hebrews.

Thought I’d just sneak that in there!

A. The triune Godhead, raised the Lord Jesus from the dead.

Some have seen this statement and similar phrases to suggest that Jesus wasn’t God!

But the precision of the wording couldn’t be further from the truth!

It is the divine, Godly side of the Son, Father, and Spirit, to make alive the human body of our Lord Jesus.

This is precisely why Jesus would say to the Pharisees, destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up!

B. The blood of the living Savior, is everlasting and efficacious.

The once for all sacrifice of our Lord is perpetuated in His living blood through the resurrection, where that blood cleanses constantly; not only those who will come to Christ, but those who have and need a constant cleansing of the same.

C. The blood makes us complete.

Not our righteousness (because we don’t have any)!

Not my good works (because those are like filthy rags in His sight).

Not my promises, overall obedience, or striving to live with no sin!

No, it is only and singly, the Blood of Jesus Himself that makes me complete.

II.

God has already qualified the work.

vs. 21

A. Defined as good only in the covenant relationship

The world thinks it can do a good work, but that work is subjective to human nature and compared to other imperfect models.

The truth is, that compared to God’s righteousness, it is nothing but a dead work.

B. Defined as good because it is His alone.

B. It is what we have been perfected for.

There is an incredible relationship available to all who trust Christ as Savior!

And, God is recreating us into the very image of His Son, that we might do the same works as He!

jihn 14:12

So, seeing these things are true, What can you and I do to realize this in our daily lives?

III.

We can only surrender.

vs.22

Our desires for His, our disobedience for obedience, our pride for humility.

We are not accustomed to this mindset, neither are we wired for it.

As fallen creatures we are predisposed to sin and selfishness!

B. Surrender our obedience.

C. Surrender our pride.
