Introduction:

We have been in a study of
We must be sexually pure -
We must love as brothers -
We must have a proper understanding of the end of time and prepare for it -
We must possess the proper attitude toward elders -
We must meet our responsibilities toward one another -
We must meet our obligations toward others, even our enemies, and rejoice, pray, and give thanks
Today we will finish the series by looking at and our relationship toward God and his word

I. Do Not Quench the Spirit

A. What is Meant by Spirit?
Some identify the spirit as the human spirit or the spirit of the new life in the Christian
There seems to be little doubt that the Spirit is the Holy Spirit - particularly when you connect it with the next exhortation “do not despise prophesies”
B. Quench - extinguish or put out the fire
- “going out”
- “the fire is not quenched”
- “quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one”
C. What is the meaning of the text?
Some believe that he is talking about the miraculous measure of the Holy Spirit
More likely in context it means “don’t extinguish the influence of the Holy spirit in our hearts” (Albert Barnes”
We are to walk by the Spirit -
We are to be led by the Spirit of God -
The Holy Spirit exerts his influence and leads through the word - and

When we fail to read and feed on God’s word - ;
