Introduction
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.
-There is evil present in theese verses is the perversion of good, which can be more tricky than outright evil this is leagalisim
-you and I can smeway gain the kingdo of heaven from some effort of our own, this was a percistent enemy of Christ his message was the gospel of grace which stands in a direct conflict of the gospel of grace.
1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” 3 He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? 6 I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. 7 And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy: 9 You are to labor six days and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates. 11 For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.
to secure absolute rest from all labor
to make the sabbeth a delight.
The deciples plucked the grain then rubbed it in their hands in order to remove the husks the plucking constituted the sin or reaping and the rubbing was considered threshing. abserd right if they havd done this any other time there would have been no issue but according to the pherisees not on the sabbeth.
3 He said to them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry: 4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate the bread of the Presence—which is not lawful for him or for those with him to eat, but only for the priests?
David and His men had a need that involved hunger
they asked for an exception to the law so they could eat the bread of presence Chrisd does not mention that David called the bread common in a way even if it had been freshly baked and hallowed in the tablr that verry day neither does he mention the conversation of the clenlyness of David’s young men. The main point here that christ is making is that if David could take the bread of presence and not be condmbed certenly he who is the Lord of the sabbeth could permit his followers to pluck grain and eat it on the sabeth.
-In this case the ceremonial law is superseded by a higher law, in this case service for the Lord !
Illistration #2
5 Or haven’t you read in the law that on Sabbath days the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath and are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.
10 this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
What Jesues is saying is that according to them the law breaks itself by establishing work for priests on the sabbeth and how could the pharisees put blame on the one who is greater than the temple
22 Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
one can see what Christ is refering to in the following verses
10 this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
22 Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
10 “A lay person shall not eat of a holy thing; no foreign guest of the priest or hired worker shall eat of a holy thing, 11 but if a priest buys a slave as his property for money, the slave may eat of it, and anyone born in his house may eat of his food. 12 If a priest’s daughter marries a layman, she shall not eat of the contribution of the holy things. 13 But if a priest’s daughter is widowed or divorced and has no child and returns to her father’s house, as in her youth, she may eat of her father’s food; yet no lay person shall eat of it. 14 And if anyone eats of a holy thing unintentionally, he shall add the fifth of its value to it and give the holy thing to the priest. 15 They shall not profane the holy things of the people of Israel, which they contribute to the Lord, 16 and so cause them to bear iniquity and guilt, by eating their holy things: for I am the Lord who sanctifies them.”
Illistration #3
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2 “Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach the message that I tell you.” 3 Jonah got up and went to Nineveh according to the Lord’s command. Now Nineveh was an extremely great city, a three-day walk. 4 Jonah set out on the first day of his walk in the city and proclaimed, “In forty days Nineveh will be demolished!” 5 Then the people of Nineveh believed God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth—from the greatest of them to the least. 6 When word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, put on sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 Then he issued a decree in Nineveh: By order of the king and his nobles: No person or animal, herd or flock, is to taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink water. 8 Furthermore, both people and animals must be covered with sackcloth, and everyone must call out earnestly to God. Each must turn from his evil ways and from his wrongdoing. 9 Who knows? God may turn and relent; he may turn from his burning anger so that we will not perish. 10 God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—so God relented from the disaster he had threatened them with. And he did not do it.
7 And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”
In verse 7 Jesus Quotes
6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
Hosa
His rebuke to the pharisees was that they were condeming the deciples without reconizing who the lord of the sabeth was they would never have critisized his deciples for plucking, rubbing and eating grain on the sabbath in order to fulfill service for the Lord of the sabbeth, with all their might
Christ used the title son of mam directly of himself as the Lord of the sabbath Thus he was claiming to be God manifest in the flesh the account in mark adds this
27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
it is significant that the phersees show no repentence here.

5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. 6 The word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, “By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water, 8 but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God.
