How to do quiet time

(daily bible reading, mediation and prayer)
A 15 minutes message.

Introduction

The Scriptures has many passages about feasting on the word of GOD.
There is the words of our LORD about man shall not live by bread along BUT by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of GOD, .
The child of GOD would love the sincere milk of the word of GOD so that he/she may grow, .
How about passage about the book of the law shall not leave our mouth, that we are to mediate on it day and night so that we may observe it and living according to it? .
There are many many more verses of such instructions to read, mediate and pray in our time with the LORD.
So, in these passages, there are many ways Christians exercise them. And if I did not misunderstand your committee, they would like to heard how some of us do this spiritual discipline.

What is your motivation?

So, what I will focus instead, at this short devotion, is your motivation.
What is your reason for doing bible reading, mediation and prayer?
Do you have a reason that will sustain this habit for the rest of your life?
Jesus read the bible (OT), mediate on the words of GOD (man shall not live on bread alone) and prayed.
What was his reason for doing this?
Answer: My Father and I are one.
John 17:25-
John 17:25–26 KJV 1900
O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Here is the heart of doing your quiet time.
Jesus knows the Father.
Jesus declares the Father.
Jesus knows the Fathers love and that the Father’s love may be our experience too.
“I in them” referring to intimate fellowship where one is being totally captivated by the LORD Jesus.
Again, this is the heart of quiet time.
The heart of reading the bible, mediating on his word and praying to him.
My last word here is a quote from D.A. Carson, which I think wraps us this short devotion and start our discussion.
“Effective prayer is the fruit of a relationship with God, not a technique for acquiring blessings.” —D.A. Carson
Example from “The History of the ESV.”
The relationship between GOD, the divine author, the translation, the translator and the reader.
