The Living Parable
HUMILITY
HUMILITY
1. Child-like humility recognizes the absolute need for Christ

b. We need Christ to direct our paths
i. Lie down in green pastures
ii. Lead beside quiet waters
iii. Restores our soul
iv. Guides in paths of righteousness
v. Protects us
vi. Prepares a table for us
2. Reception
a. To receive a believer is to receive Christ
b. Believers are united with Christ
“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.
All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;
and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;
naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?
And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?
When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

CAUSING BELIEVERS TO STUMBLE IS VERY SERIOUS
CAUSING BELIEVERS TO STUMBLE IS VERY SERIOUS
This seems to be referring to believers causing other believers to stumble
Perhaps the elevation of Peter, James, and John caused the rest of the apostles to grumble
Perhaps the miraculous way in which Peter’s temple tax was paid made the other apostles envious
These things may have led to an argument as to which one of them was greater
They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
Heavy millstone -- μύλος ὀνικὸς – literally “millstone of a donkey”
The New Manners and Customs of the Bible 18:6 Millstone and Drowning
There is no evidence that the mode of punishment named in our text-verse was ever practiced by the Jews. It was in use, however, by the ancient Syrians, Romans, Macedonians, and Greeks. It was inflicted on the worst class of criminals, especially on parricides (one who murders his or her mother, father, or near relative), and those guilty of sacrilege.
Our Personal Sin Can Become a Stumbling Block for Ourselves or for Others

Causing Other Believers to Stumble is Equated with Despising Them
