There is problem.
All mankind has this problem.
It’s a sin problem.
Because of our sin we are at war with God.
We are on a path of conflict with God which would lead to our ultimate utter destruction.
We are headed for Hell.
Sin must either be deal with in this life or when we die.
God has one provision which the sin problem can be dealt with in this life, it’s the cross, That is believing and rest in Christ’s work on the cross we can have our sin dealt with in this life.
If you believe in Christ you will receive a supernatural transfusion.
Our sins are given to Christ and we get Christ righteousness making us right with God.
Christ alone makes us right with God.
This is called justification.
Our text tells 4 things we receive when we are justified.
First, through Christ alone we are in accord with God
Look with me in verse 5:1.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
The word for peace(εἰρήνη) carries the idea of tranquility in absence of war.
This peace is made possible by our justification.
The word for justified(δικαιόω) carries the idea to make someone righteous.
Our text tells us two things about our justification.
First, our justification is based on the righteousness of Christ.
Do you see in the text, “through the Lord Jesus Christ?”
He is the agent by which we are justified.
We are given his righteousness, that is what makes us right with God.
Second, we were justified when we put our faith in Christ alone.
Do you see in our text “by faith?”
Faith is means by which you are justified.
This faith is a gift from God so that we may initial believe and we will continue to believe in Christ.
Our justification guarantees we will always have peace.
The justification that brought us peace with God is all God and nothing of ourselves, because he provides everything and we provide nothing to making ourselves justified.
When we were justified we received peace, is there anything else we received?
Yes!
Our text tells us.
We now have open access to God.
