Introduction
Introduction
As we embrace the gravity of this election that is embarking upon us, we have seen something that we have not seen in prior elections. We have had the awesome experience to see leaders in the political realm and in the social take the main stage to personally endorse the candidates which are running; Leaders such as Oprah Winfery, Bill Clinton, even Barack Obama which as you know are both former presidents.
As I was listening to Former President Obama speak to the audience in Miami in his endorsement to Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillium, who is running for the Governor of Florida, which is about be a Historical Monument in History; President Obama began to get booed, as he talked about the importance of the election. What stood out to me was, although they booed, it did not shake his confidence, belief, or delivery of what he came to say. I saw so much in this delivery, and intent; Even through negativity he was still operating. What President Obama showed me is regardless of the popularity polls, regardless of naysayers, he still handled the moment like a Leader. True Leadership leads those that want to follow and those that don’t. Real leaders have to lead regardless of opinion!
Harry Truman once commented on the importance of opinion polls to leadership, with the following insight: “I wonder how far Moses would have gone if he’d taken a poll in Egypt?
continuing in our lesson in leadership, I am honored to have the responsibility to lead such a diverse people. It really says something to lead people who all come from different backgrounds, with different educational exposure, even different value systems.
Leadership is your response to God through obedience to those who have been placed in care of your soul. The sad thing is some of us have concern for so many earthly things, so many physical things, so many emotional things. but they have no concern for eternal things.
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
this message is most definitely not for everyone, because there will always be someone that will not be led, will not follow directions, will not submit to leadership, and there is not a question on what happens to their soul. The question is not whats going to happen to them, the real question is who will they cause to fall because people are following them.
All of the children of Isreal could identify their leader, but not all of them was willing to follow, you don’t get a cookie because you can identify your leaders. We are not looking for those that can identify, we are looking for those that are followers.
Power from God.
Power from God.
Paul states to us something very vital in this text, he shows us the value of being subject to the authority that watches your soul. Well we have to underStand the Powers that Be. It is dangerous to let your flesh put you in the position to question or disobey leadership. this book says that the powers that be are of God. this really leads to the presupposition that the powers that be may not be who you want them to be. Gods assignment of leadership does not come with an approval from us. The power that they possess comes from God. Regardless to your approval or not the authority that they have over you is not their authority. Its Gods authority, it shows the importance of praying for your leader, because you need to be guilty of talking to the God that is talking to your leader. Because sometimes as leaders you got to humble yourself and not try to usurp authority that is someone else's.
Jesus addressed this best when he said to Pilate when he was trying to flex with Gods authority
King James Version Chapter 19
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? 11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin
