Theme: The Golden Calf. Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, so the people of Israel was looking for a new Moses. They are afraid Moses will not return and then they might have to deal directly with God. We often have three masked motives for replacing who God sends us: fear, false hope and laughter. Idolatry at its core replaces Jesus with an intermediary of our own making.
