The Methods of Christ submitted to God’s timing

God is in Control!

God’s Timing was perfect for Christ.
The reason Christ did not want to go to the Festival of Tabernacles was because of God’s will and God’s timing.
Attending was a requirement for all Jewish males
Making a public appearance at the festival was good business.
It would have been good for making and encouraging His disciples; however, Christ was not following man’s will but the Father’s will.
Clearly Jesus did not hesitate to turn himself over to be killed when

The church knows its surroundings and is controlled by God’s calendar.

John 7:1 NIV
After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
NIVAfter this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
Jesus’ methods were controlled by God’s timing. However, God’s timing centered on the suffering of Christ. Therefore the timing of Christ’s suffering was dependent upon God’s will.
Jesus Christ could not go public until
What was Jesus intentional about at this time of His ministry?
Jesus responded to the current events.
3rd great occasion that all Hebrew males were required to observe annually.
Required: Mid September/October
Lasted for one week -
The first day was marked with a symbolic cessation from all activity
Burnt sacrifices were presented to the Lord
The 8th day the congregation of Israel abstained from manual work and again offered burnt sacrifices
Think about this, The fruit of “goodly trees” was to be gathered on the first day of the feast, along with palm fronds, willow branches, and boughs from trees in full leaf. From these, rough shelters or booths were to be constructed in which the people lived for the week of the feast. Every seventh year the observances were marked by a public recital of the covenant provisions to which the Israelites under Moses had committed themselves, a procedure designed to keep fresh in their minds the obligations as well as the blessings of the covenant relationship.

Festival of Tabernacles This festival, known variously as the Feast of Booths, Tabernacles, Shelters (; ), or Ingathering (), was the third great occasion that all Hebrew males were required to observe annually. It began on the 15th day of the seventh month (Tishri), shortly after the observance of the Day of Atonement, which fell on the 10th day.

FESTIVAL OF TABERNACLES

God’s timing knows the way of the world

John 7:1–5 NIV
After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
Jewish leaders were looking to kill Jesus.
Jesus submitted to God’s timing.
Matthew 26:18 NIV
He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’ ”
Matthew 26:
He was not manipulated by worldly patterns.
Brothers said go make a public appearance.
Common sense, it will be good for your disciples!
the festival of Tabernacles required all Jewish males to attend.
But: the festival of Tabernacles required all Jewish males to attend.
Even Jesus brothers did not believe He was the Messiah.
The church should not be manipulated by worldly patterns.
Jesus knew the Jewish leaders were looking to kill him so He avoided Judea.
His brothers sarcastically told him to make a public appearance for His disciples sake.
Know your surroundings. Jesus did not want to go.
Jewish leaders: What did Jesus know? Jesus knew the Jewish leaders were looking for a way to kill him. Jesus did not want to go
Know the will of man: His unbelieving brothers Told him to go,
Jesus brothers: Let your disciples see your works - show yourself to the world.
God’s timing: The reason the world hated Jesus.
Jesus went in secret.

God’s timing is not controlled by the world.

Know the Will of God - The time had not come
John 7:6–13 NIV
Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee. However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus and asking, “Where is he?” Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.” But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.
John 7:6
Jesus submitted to God’s plan.
His brothers could evaluate timing based on the world. All males were required to attend the festival. He could have claimed His rightful position as Messiah. However, unlike His brothers God’s timing controlled Jesus choices.
After remaining in Galilee, Jesus secretly went to the festival. Many would say that He was blowing a great opportunity. The Jewish leaders were looking for him. The crowds were talking about Him. However, everything was being said in secret because the Jewish leaders followed their own timing.
The reason His time had not come was due to hate, evil and the testimony of Christ.
The free will in God’s timing

7. In John καιρός appears infrequently. Jesus says to his brothers: “My time is not yet here, but your time is always here” (7:6) and “My time has not yet been fulfilled” (v. 8). In the not-yet of the καιρός the not-yet of Jesus’ suffering stands in the foreground. However, the imminent time of suffering will become at the same time the eschatologically filled time of the final revelation (a major motif in John is → ὥρα). “Your καιρός” is thus all times, while Jesus’ works, which are eschatological acts, summon forth in each moment acts of decision and thus place one in the time of decision (see R. Bultmann, John [Eng. tr., 1971] 292f. for details). is a secondary gloss.

God’s Timing is revealed in the secret!

John 7:10–13 NIV
However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. John
Jesus went in secret and not in publicly.
Public figure used in verse 4 means - boldness n. — the trait of being willing to undertake activities that involve risk or danger; especially that involve being honest and straightforward in attitude and speech.
publically used in verse 10 means - openly adv. — in a way accessible to or in view of all.
Jesus didn’t go boldly but did go openly. He didn’t make a public announcement but blended in with the crowds.
The Jewish leaders were looking for him
People were talking about Him
Halfway through the week activities, Jesus teaches at the
Temple.

God’s Timing is Perfect

John 7:14–15 NIV
Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”
