Regeneration—receiving a new nature through the second birth
John 1:12-13; 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:3; Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
The new nature of regeneration
Eph 4:22-24 put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Ro 6:3-4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Ro 7:6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
Ro 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
2 Co 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Col 3:10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,
Redemption—obtaining by paying a ransom price
Luke 1:68; 68 “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
Gal. 3:13; 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
1 Cor. 6:20 For you were bought at a price;
1 Pe 1:18-19 …. you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Heb. 9:12 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Imputation—God adding the righteousness of Christ to the believing sinner
Isa. 53:5, 11; 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
Rom. 4:3-8; 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. 5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”
Adoption—wherein the believing sinner enjoys all the privileges and responsibilities of adult son hood
Eph. 1:5 adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself,
Gal. 4:4-5 God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Rom. 8:15-23 you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body
Supplication (prayer)—communicating with God
Luke 18:13; 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’
Acts 2:21; 21 And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.’
Jude 20 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
Justification—God declaring a repentant sinner righteous
Rom. 5:1; Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Rom. 8:33 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
Regeneration; have you received the new nature
Redemption; have you accepted Gods ransom
Imputation; has God put the righteousness of Christ on your account
Adoption; are you experiencing the benefits of being a child of God
Supplication; do you talk to god about your deepest concerns
Justification; has God declared you righteous
