God of the hills?
God of the hills?
23 Meanwhile, the officials of the king of Aram advised him, “Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains, surely we will be stronger than they.
The Jewish rulers observed temple worship but still had a worldly worldview in many ways. For example, they assumed people still were married in heaven.
Modern Christians still localize their religious life on the church campus.
This results in a great disconnect between faith and life. God becomes less relevant. And then he becomes irrelevant. God who is all becomes some and then none. The rise of the nones is not a coincidence. Godlessness bears consequences, and we are reaping those consequences today. Society is fundamentally broken because we have abandoned our God.
Revivals begin when Christians take God outside the building and into the streets. The First Great Awakening began like this in the early 1700s, and this influenced the US for 200 years. In 1924 is when Christians began to withdraw from public life in detrimental ways while engaging in increasingly secular ways.

10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
48 Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men.

I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast! And when I run I feel his pleasure. (Eric Liddell)

I’ve been protected, I’ve been directed, I’ve been corrected, I’ve kept god in my life and it’s kept me humble, I didn’t always stick with him but he always stuck with me. So stick with him, in everything you do, if you think you want to do, what you think I’ve done, then do what I’ve done. And stick with god. (Denzel Washington, Dillard University Commencement Speech, 2015).
