Giving is Golden

Illustration: Little boy was on his way out the door to attend Sunday School at the church up the street. His mother gave him two quarters. She said, “Make sure you give one quarter in offering and after Sunday School you can use the other to buy an ice cream cone from the corner store on the way home. Little boy lost one of his quarters on the way to Sunday School. It rolled down the drain. He was upset all during Sunday School. The teacher noticed the dejected look on his face and said, “Remember, what says, ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’” NIV
(NIV)
28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
When he got back home, his mother heard his story and felt empathy for her son and gave him another quarter so he could get some ice cream at the store on the corner. The Son replied, “Oh, thanks Mom but that’s OK.” She said, “But you’ve been good all week, you deserve a treat.” To which he responded, “No Mom. God worked it out. I got to buy my ice cream cone, it was Jesus’ quarter I lost.”
PP- Today, I’m starting a new series entitled, “Give”.
What we are about to read is a list of maxims, truths, principles, proverbs, rules for life, they are also called in some circles, “golden nuggets”.
Children and teens hear these things from their parents everyday: Don’t forget to place the soap back onto soap dish so that the next person won’t slip on the soap when they get into the shower. Remember to put your lunch bag back into you backpack so that you’ll have it for the next day. When you’re pulling out of the drive way, don’t take a chance if you’re not absolutely certain that you can turn safely onto the main road. Always do you best, no matter what. Finish what you start. Speak up, your opinion counts. You have talent, use it. Bless those who do not have. Life’s too short for foolishness.
This is what Jesus was doing with his disciples, giving them golden nuggets for life.
He starts off with statements of blessings (vs.20-23), we were taught as children that these were called, “The Beatitudes” - a condition or statement of blessings. Beatus is Latin for happy or fortunate.
(NIV)
20 Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. ( “…poor in spirit” - humble)
He starts off the with statements of blessings, we were taught as children that these were called, “The Beatitudes”.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. ( “… who hunger and thirst after righteousness”)
(NIV)
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Luke 6:20–21 NIV
Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
And the following scripture is the Golden Nugget I’d like to impress upon you over the next few weeks...
(NIV)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
(NIV)
Luke 6:27–29 NIV
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
Luke 6:27–29 NIV

This is the golden nugget I’m giving to you that Jesus gave to us.
Luke 6:38 NIV
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Today’s topic is, “Giving is Golden”

Jesus tells us that giving is a virtue. It has beneficial qualities in addition to being commendable. Giving is certainly Golden.
Backdrop:
PP- Prior to giving out all of these great golden nuggets for life, in vs. 12, Jesus had been on the side of a mountain praying to the Father. In vs. 13, it states that when the morning came, he called all of his disciples together and chose 12 of them to be his close associates. He designated them as apostles.
PP- Illustration: Picture of Jesus Teaching on the Plain beside a mountain.
He and the twelve went down to a level place where he was met by all sorts of people from various cultures and social economic levels. Some were prominent rulers, other were fishermen, many trekked in from the south who lived in Jerusalem, others lived further west by Tyre and Sidon. Some were sick physically. Others were sick spiritually. Some were even being accosted by demonic presences.
Vs. 19 said “and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. that they all came to Jesus to touch Him because power was emanating from him and they were being healed.”
(NIV)
19and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. that they all came to Jesus to touch Him because power was emanating from him and they were being healed.
And immediately after touching them, he goes into a full throttle of teaching! Giving them Golden Nuggets.
Why would Jesus do this? Jesus had just met their needs. Why would he burden these poor souls with much teaching?
And immediately after touching them, he goes into a full throttle of teaching! Why would Jesus do this? Why would he burned these poor souls with instructions?
Why would Jesus do this? Why would he burden these poor souls with much teaching?
then Jesus immediately starts teaching them and delivering to them Golden Nuggets for life!
Why would Jesus do this? Why would he burned these poor souls with instructions?
Because people who have struggled, people who are sick, people who recognized they need more, people who are affluent but at the same time lacking, and those who have experienced the power of God’s salvation, must be immediately fed spiritual principles.
PP- Christ’s principles are the tenets to keeping a freed person protected and preserved in their spiritual freedom!
Christ’s principles = protection and preservation (twitter, facebook, instagram)
Jesus gives lots of “Spiritual Golden Nuggets” because he wants us to be free!
in order for them to continue on in the freedom thaey had just received, they needed to embrace His principles. After they get a touch from Him, they now need to live out His principles in order to stay delivered! Free.
Jesus gives lots of good advice, what we call "Golden Nuggets". One of those nuggets deals with giving. he explains that giving is a virtue. It has beneficial qualities in addition to being commendable. Giving is Golden.
Giving is one of those basic golden nuggets.
PP- Address the Elephants in the Room!
Address the Elephant in the Room!
Although it is basic and elementary in the spiritual scope, many struggle with it. Especially with the reporting of recent church improprieties. Supposed Spiritual leaders stealing monies. Ministries misappropriating funds. For a while we kept hearing bad stories of the abuse of money and power in the church.
Learning to give is a basic pricinple.
With the reporting of church improprieties. Supposed Spiritual leaders stealing monies. Ministries misappropriating funds, people are leery about trusting churches.

I’m here to shed light to this issue. Don’t give up on “The True Church of Jesus!” I’m here on behalf of the majority! The majority of churches out there are doing the right thing. You do not hear much about the churches who are managing their capital properly. Ministries like ours have a system of “Checks and balances”.
For a while we kept hearing bad stories of the abuse of money and power in the church.
It seems as though you keep hearing one ministry after another ministry operating with improprieties.

No wonder people are leery about giving.

The Treasurer's staff see what coming in. They write out the financial deposits. We have a cash management company that comes with armed guards to pick up any cash we have on sight. They verify the balance on the financial records the Treasurer's staff recorded. Our accountant, verifies what we take in and the management of it and also gives advice. I get a weekly report and a quarterly report.
In 21 years of ministry, we have never misused money! EVER!
When people make statements like, “All they want is your money” Those statements aren’t true for New Birth! Yes we use money for the up keep of ministry and to do the work of soulwinning.
But we are all about Christ’s teachings, of which one is Giving!
Most churches are doing the best they can do with the resources they have.

But there are many negative opinions about giving to the church.
Just because bread gets moldy, doesn’t mean all bread is moldy!
Companies who were on the brink of a shutdown, but customers frequented their companies in spite of.
A slice of moldy bread doesn’t mean that all loaves of bread is moldy!
Just because bread gets moldy, doesn’t mean all bread is moldy!
Because one member does something in error, doesn't mean that every member is in error. Let me elucidate this idea.

Luke 6:38 NIV

There are a list of many companies that we give the benefit of the doubt to and even extend grace to.
Best buy
PP- Best buy
PP- Best buy
Best Buy is the world’s largest brick-and-mortar electronics store, but a few years ago, it looked like it might join former competitors like Circuit City in the retail graveyard. In 2010, sales and profits were way down, and a scandal involving the then-CEO in 2012 only made things worse, as Salon reported. Remarkably, the company managed to turn itself around. The new CEO cleaned up disorganized stores, shuttered failing locations, brought in exclusive products, and improved service. Most important, the chain integrated the online and in-store experiences, making it easy to research products online and staffing stores with employees who were experts in popular brands like Samsung and Apple. Customers returned, and by 2016, both profits and the company’s stock price were up.
PP- Jack in the Box
In 1993, an E. coli outbreak at dozens of Jack in the Box restaurants set off a major crisis for the fast food chain. After eating contaminated hamburgers, four children died and more than 175 people were hospitalized (some suffered permanent kidney and brain damage). The scandal put expansion plans on hold and led to layoffs. But implementing stringent food safety standards, along with a clever marketing campaign, helped the chain recover. Today, Americans can’t get enough of Jack in the Box’s food, including its “vile and amazing” tacos, of which it sells 554 million every year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

PP-Starbucks
For African Americans, it was only the latest highly visible case of a videotaped racial incident that's unlikely to happen to white patrons.
But this time, the ugly encounter that led to the arrest of two black men involved Starbucks, a chain that has tried to position itself as both home to progressive policies and a place to socialize, not just to sip coffee. It has tried to stand apart from diners like Applebee's and IHOP, where other racially charged incidents have occurred recently.
PP-IHOP
An IHOP in Auburn, Maine, apologized after a server asked a group of black teens to pay upfront for their meal last month. The restaurant manager said he did not think the server’s action was racially motivated because the restaurant had some problems with teens leaving without paying.
Old Navy
In January, a black man alleged that he had been racially profiled at an Old Navy store in West Des Moines, Iowa, when he was asked to prove he had previously purchased an Old Navy jacket he was wearing.
PP-Facebook
Lego has earned high praise for its toys, which encourage creative play for kids, but a little over 10 years ago, the Danish company’s foundation was shaky. It was unwittingly selling some products for less than they cost to manufacture, while new toy sets failed to impress fans young and old. So, the company streamlined operations and set about recruiting designers who loved the product. The new approach worked. New sets proved popular (especially those tied to hit franchises like Harry Potter), and a blockbuster movie also helped the brand. Now, two years after become the world’s largest toy company, Lego is so successful it’s struggling to keep up with demand.
Facebook
Facebook has built its highly profitable social network off its users, selling advertisements based on their ages, interests and other details. But the scrutiny over the company’s vast trove of personal data — following a report that a political consulting firm had improperly obtained information of 50 million users — is taking direct aim at that lucrative formula. The company has been the subject of several privacy investigations and charges by European regulators. Europe has approved a new privacy law, which takes effect in May, that will give users of Facebook, Google and other internet services more control over how their data is collected and what Silicon Valley companies know about them.
But its intriguing that a vast majority of people still frequent these companies, although they’ve had some severe problems?
Likewise, the church as a whole has experienced some serious problems. Scandals, financial improprieties, sex issues, deception, and many more vices has cast a shadow over the image of the church at large.
Here is the good news, yes a few churches, some of them high profile churches, have had some problems, but… the majority of churches and church leaders, especially the ones I’m close to, aren’t involved in scandals!
the majority of churches and church leaders that I’m close to, aren’t involved in scandals!
But truth is, there are organizations whose goal is to discredit the church, affect the influence the church has, and some are even trying to shut the church down. They take the problems of the few church and church leaders and hyper-report it. Some press sensationalize the faults of the very few, in order to cast a negative shadow upon the all churches as a whole. Their reporting implies that all churches are the same.
One of the effects of this negative press is that people stop giving to the church. but this is in contradiction to what Christ has commanded up to do.
Problem: if you stop giving to a legitimate church, you’ll forfeit the blessing Christ promised you!
I’m here today to highlight the Golden Nugget Christ gave to us over 200 years ago, we must Give!
I want to encourage you, just as Christ did to keep on GIVING! Because there is a blessing in giving!
encourage all of us to trust good leadership, and continue on the right path of giving to the church as instructed by Christ.
We should give, because Giving is Golden!
I want to encourage you, just as Christ did to keep on GIVING! Because there is a blessing in giving!
There are three main reasons for giving here in our text.
Today’s topic is, “Giving is Golden”
When Jesus said,
Giving is Golden Because...
L.A Preachers was a show of some high profile pastors in L.A. Only if these pastors knew, that they were being paid to be the canvass of those who do not like the church. The editing of the story lines always made the pastor look ignorant, greedy, uncaring, and sullied!
The church has experienced a good degree of negative publicity in this age of instant news. Scandals, financial improprieties, sex issues, and many more. Here is the good news, the majority of churches and church leaders that I’m close to, aren’t involved in scandals! There are organizations whose goal is to discredit the church, affect the influence the church has, and some are even trying to shut the church down. As a result, the problems that some churches are facing are hyper-exaggerated in order to sensationalize the faults of the very few so that the sensational news stories bring a bad light upon the church.
Giving is Golden Because...
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

(NIV)
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
We must be solid in our belief in the promises of God! That is the trigger for receiving. Abraham was a grand illustration of believing God all the way through, to the blessing!
(NIV)
(NIV)
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Matthew 7:7–11 NIV

19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.
3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,
56 “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.
10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

2. Results are Golden!
(NIV)
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
This is a picture of a person who shopped in the ancient market place.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
7Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
7Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
8And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
Giving is Golden also because...
8And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
3. The quality of the return is set by you!
The attitude and action you use when giving gets reflected back to you!
(NIV)
You get to set the standard of return! The quality of the return is created by you.
(NIV)
38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
The actions and attitude you use when giving to God, is the standard by which things return to you. The distinctive attributes you use when giving to God, are the attributes that will accompany your return!
(NIV)
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
How you give, comes back to you when something is giving to you!
Does joy accompany your giving? Because it so, joy will accompany your reward.
Illustration: A mother loses her son to a faulty mechanical issue in a car. She is terribly distraught. The company settles and gives her a million dollars. She got a reward, but it wasn’t accompanied with joy! It came with agony, pain, loss, and heartache.
Point is, some rewards aren’t good!
Satan asked Jesus to give him something (See Matt chapter 4). And in return, Satan promised to give Jesus a reward!
God loves a cheerful giver! Imagine giving with a cheerful, heart full of glee.
(NIV)
God loves a cheerful giver! Imagine giving with a cheerful, heart full of glee.
You reward for giving will come back to you with cheer and glee!

46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.
48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
When the wind comes… not if the wind will comes.

The sermon concludes with the familiar reminder that a good man’s heart produces good things (vv. 43–45) and that a wise man will put Jesus’ words into practice, making them the foundation on which he builds his life (vv. 46–49).

Do Not Let Your Giving Be Determined By What Outsiders Say!
Do Not Let Your Giving Be Determined By What Outsiders Say!
In some circles, the church will never be presented in a positive light!
(The Message)
16 “How can I account for this generation? The people have been like spoiled children whining to their parents,
17 ‘We wanted to skip rope, and you were always too tired; we wanted to talk, but you were always too busy.’

Do not allow this false representation of the church of the Living God universal to stop you from exercising your Christian responsibility! GIVE!

Do not allow this false representation of the church of the Living God universal to stop you from exercising your Christian responsibility! GIVE!
Darkness Can’t See Light!
Because in giving, there is a blessing! There are so many witnesses right here in New Birth Church to the truth of this principle. There’s no need to look outside of this church!
Do not allow the view of the world system to taint your knowledge of the Bible! Do what you know is right!
Do not allow the view of the world system to taint your knowledge of the Bible! Do what you know is right!
What I’m teaching is not a ploy to get money, it is a punch back at demonic rhetoric! This teaching is not to get extra money out of you, it is teaching from the WORD of God to set the crooked places straight in the House of God! It is to dispelled the rumours of darkness!
