                          WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION       5/27/07 A.M.

James 3:5-6    Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

As humans we posses the weapons of mass destruction– mouth, tongue, lips, evil words, slanderous words, backbiting, gossip, deceit, slander

Prov. 24:2 2     For their heart devises violence,

                                    And their lips talk of troublemaking.

Prov. 18:2121     Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

Lev. 19:16-18 16 You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

17 ‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Ps. 64:2-52     Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,

                        From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,

3     Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,

                        And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,

4     That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;

Their destructive power

Ps. 52:2& 4 2     Your tongue devises destruction,

                        Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

4     You love all devouring words,

                        You deceitful tongue.

Ps. 140:3 3     They sharpen their tongues like a serpent;

                        The poison of asps is under their lips.

Prov. 11:1111     By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted,

                                    But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Prov. 12:1818      There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword,

                                    But the tongue of the wise promotes health.

Prov. 15:4 4     A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,

                                    But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

Prov. 16:27-3027     An ungodly man digs up evil,

                                                And it is on his lips like a burning fire.

28     A perverse man sows strife,

                                                And a whisperer separates the best of friends.

29     A violent man entices his neighbor,

                                                And leads him in a way that is not good.

30     He winks his eye to devise perverse things;

                                                He purses his lips and brings about evil.

Prov. 17:9 9     He who covers a transgression seeks love,

                                    But he who repeats a matter separates friends.

Prov. 26:21 21     As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire,

                                                So is a contentious man to kindle strife.

Prov. 26:28 28     A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it,

                                    And a flattering mouth works ruin.

            Ecc. 10:11 11     A serpent may bite  when it is not charmed;

                                    The babbler is no different.

Prov. 12:1313     The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips,

Prov. 17:20 20     He who has a deceitful heart finds no good,

                                                And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.

            Isa. 32:6  6     For the foolish person will speak foolishness,

                                    And his heart will work iniquity:

                                    To practice ungodliness,

                                    To utter error against the Lord,

                                    To keep the hungry unsatisfied,

                                    And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

James 3:5-12    Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

God’s declaration

God Sees

Ps. 64:5 5     They encourage themselves in an evil matter;

                                    They talk of laying snares secretly;

                                    They say, “Who will see them?”

Ps. 64:7-8  7     But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;

                                    Suddenly they shall be wounded.

8         So He will make them stumble over their own tongue;

Because

Prov. 6:16-19   6     These six things the Lord hates,

     Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

17     A proud look,

      A lying tongue,

     Hands that shed innocent blood,

18     A heart that devises wicked plans,

      Feet that are swift in running to evil,

19     A false witness who speaks lies,

     And one who sows discord among brethren.

God says

Prov. 10:18 18     ….., And whoever spreads slander is a fool.

James 1:26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue

                       but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

The Lord instructs us to;

Prov. 4:24 24     Put away from you a 3deceitful (devious) mouth,

                                    And put perverse lips far from you.

Prov. 26:20 20     Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;

            And where there is no 4talebearer, (gossip or slanderer, lit. whisperer) strife ceases.

Ps. 34:13 13     Keep your tongue from evil,

                                    And your lips from speaking deceit.

14      Depart from evil and do good;

                                    Seek peace and pursue it.

Because

Prov. 21:23     23     Whoever guards his mouth and tongue

                                                Keeps his soul from troubles.

Mt. 12:34-37   34 …. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 …, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

Setting a guard on our mouth & tongue allows us into Gods’ presence;

Ps. 15:1-3   1     Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?

     Who may dwell in Your holy hill?

2     He who walks uprightly,

And works righteousness,

And speaks the  truth in his heart;

3     He who does not backbite with his tongue,

Nor does evil to his neighbor,

                        Nor does he take up (receive)a reproach against his friend;

Mt. 12:37    37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be

                        condemned.”

The end of all things is at hand; therefore

1 Peter 4:7-10  But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Eph. 4:29-32    29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary 8edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, 9clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Confession is made with the mouth

            If you are lost He will forgive you and save you;

            If you are saved He will forgive you and restore you.
