Introduction
Ushers, do we have users here! Help me out how many types of givers have you observed About three types? 1) The envelope givers in their comfort zone, budgeted regular giving, puts envelop in the basket and passes it on. 2) The contemplative givers, wait until the basket comes up, then pull out the checkbook and starts praying, lord how much? Then writes the check and puts it in the basket. These are the ushers running up the baskets from contemplative givers in the middle of the Eucharistic prayer. 3) Then we have the rolled-up dollar bill giver, they are very quick to move on the basket. All fun aside. Thank God for givers of all types and amounts.

In our first reading, towards the end of a severe drought in the land of Israel, God sends Elijah the prophet, arriving at village of this poor widow right when she is collecting sticks to bake her last batch of bread to eat with her son die in that drought. Elijah asks her for a cup of water and a piece of bread, he told her not be afraid, her flour and oil will last you until it rains again. and she does as he said and her flour and oil lasted her until the next rain. She became the PWOW type giver. Hear God voice, is not afraid, does not hold tight to last possessions for her own security or her sons, but Trust God for all their needs.

In our first reading, there is a severe drought in the land of Israel because Ahab the king of Israel has spread great evil in the land in sight of the Lord. Time is coming for the drought to end so God sends Elijah the prophet, arriving at village of this widow right when she is collecting sticks to bake her last batch of bread to eat with her son die in that drought. Elijah asks her for a cup of water and a piece of bread, he told her not be afraid, her flour and oil will last you until it rains again. and she takes care of his needs first out of her poverty. She is the PWOW type giver. PWOW givers have learned not hold on to their possessions out of fear for security, but to Trust God for all their needs.
In our Gospel Jesus, spots a PWOW giver in action in the Temple and points her out to his disciples. He says this poor widow gave more than all, because most give out of the surplus of their wealth but she gave all she had out of her poverty. This PWOW giver has also learned not to hold on to her last possessions out of fear for security but trust God completely. She knows her heavenly father love her knows her need and will supply it.

By giving her last two pennies, in her own sacramental way she is showing us this beautiful and powerful attitude of her heart towards God. She has set up a cash flow situation of faith and trust that will never end in the Bank of God. Jesus said blessed are the poor, I think because they can learn to be rich in faith and trusting God for everything. God attaches PWOW value to all giving of our time, treasure or talent regardless of how small or large.

She has set up a faith and trust account in the Bank of God and a great cash flow situation. Jesus said blessed are the poor, I think because they can learn to be rich in faith and trusting God for everything. (Students at USC: struggle with tuition and bills, but have great potential for making a lot of money in the future, this is the great time to practice learning to becoming PWOW givers).

We live in a highly charged materialistic culture, eyes looking at fancy cars and things, O that we don’t spend our last to pennies on such things, nor hold on tight out of fear to our wealth and bank acounts.
You ask what type of giver are you deacon? I have to admit, my wife and I are envelope givers at our comfort zone, but by the grace of God, we desire to practice and learn to become a PWOW value givers. How about you?
