1 I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness; but indeed you are bearing with me.

Ephesians 5:
31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
John the Baptist said:
John 3:27
28 “You yourselves are my witnesses that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent ahead of Him.’
29 “He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.
Jesus
Mark 2:16-
16 When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, “Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
18 John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they came and said to Him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”
19 And Jesus said to them, “While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 “But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.
Jewish Wedding
Choosing the Bride
Choosing the Bride
In Hebrew culture the father of the groom chose the bride. Sometimes send a servant.
Abraham send Eliezer to find a bride for Isaac (Rebekah)
44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:
The Agreement (Ketubah)
The Agreement (Ketubah)
Agreement of the terms of the marriage.
Sealed with a cup of wine
They were considered bound by a covenant relationship in marriage.
27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you;
Matthew
2nd part.
Once the agreement was fulfilled, after the marriage was consummated they shared a second cup of wine.
25 “Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
Mark 14:25
The Bride Price (Mohar)
The Bride Price (Mohar)
It was considered that the brides family was losing a daughter and the sons family was gaining one. So there was compensation in the agreement the mohar. The amount of the mohar was a reflection of the Father of the groom wealth, integrity and commitment to the bride.
17 If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians
1 Peter 1:
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 corinthians 6:1
The Preparations
The Preparations
The bridegroom would leave and prepare the place where the couple would live. Usually on the property of the father of the groom.
2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
The time was not known when the preparation was done.
The honor as steak was the father’s. Only he would determine when it was ready.
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
The Cleansing (Mikvah)
The Cleansing (Mikvah)
complete immersion. Ritualistic cleansing of the body in preparation for the wedding.
12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.
13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
The Return of the Bridegroom
The Return of the Bridegroom
When the father determined it was time. The bridegroom would return to get his bride.
1 Corinthians 6:
18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
One of his groomsman would be out front, Shouting: Behold the bridegroom comes!!!
The father would then say to the son, “Go and get your bride!
Usually at night. When the bride got word that this was happening, she would run out to meet her bridegroom and they would go together to the ceremony.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

The Ceremony and the Marriage Supper
The Ceremony and the Marriage Supper
Following a short ceremony comes the celebration.
Revelation 19:
7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.”
8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
9 Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ ” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.”
