Faith is the Assurance of things Hoped for? What do we hope for?

Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1–3 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Hebrews 11:4 ESV
By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.
When we use the word “hope” we often say something like this:
I hope it doesn’t rain
I hope the lion finally have a winning season
I hope that they are serving prime rib tomorrow
As we study people who were credited faith we must remember how we can have assurance of things hoped for and what we can hope for..
But as we study people who were credited faith we must remember how we can have assurance of things hoped for and what we can hope for..
There is ~74 different verses that speak of Hope in the old and new testament. And Today we only have enough time to go through 1 section.
We can have assurance of all the things the bible promises us:
James 1:5 ESV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Luke 11:9–10 ESV
And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
We can have dead faith. We can have the faith of the Joel Osteen, or Joyce Meyers, or Benny Hinn. They say if you have faith it will come true… Seems similar right? Wrong!
These Heretics would have your believe that if you BELIEVE IT then you have faith and it is going to happen, things like success, money, passing college, a new house, a promotion, losing weight, looking young, “Speaking Life”, and not “Speaking Death”
The LIE- if it doesn't happen? Then its your fault for not believing enough.
Surely there is a special place in Hell for these people:
Luke 6:26 ESV
“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.
Read this in your own time?
2 Peter 2 ESV
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones, whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord. But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing, but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness. These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
2 Peter 2
___________
Now the only way to Before we can get into true faith we must remember how to separate the answer from the Truth!
“Seeking first the kingdom of God”
Remember to seek first the Kingdom of God. That all the bible promises we have wether physical or spiritual benefits to us involve US seeking HIS Glory above all else! When the Bible talks about Faith is the assurance of things hoped for
Remember our last sermon about:
“seeking first the kingdom of God”
By Faith: (watch how in all these texts the faith they have is in Christ and its not done to prosper yourself, in fact its often the opposite!)
Abel
Genesis 4:2–5 ESV
And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell.
It was not that God did not like offerings of fruits and plants from the ground, It was Cains Heart! and Abel in faith brought the best that he had!
Hebrews 11:4 ESV
By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.
Hebrews 11:4-
Genesis 4:6 ESV
The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?

In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell.

By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.

When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah.
Genesis 5:24 ESV
Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
Gen 5:
Hebrews 11:5–6 ESV
By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Noah
Noah
Noah walked by faith for 300 years! 300 Years before God fulfilled his promise!!! (-ch8)
Hebrews 11:7
Hebrews 11:7 ESV

HOW SIMILAR IS OUR WALK BY FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST!!!!!
Abraham
Hebrews 11:8–10 ESV
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
Hebrews 11:8
Sarah
Hebrews 11:11 ESV
By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.
Hebrews 11:11

John 3:5–6 ESV

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Trust and Obey! Like theres no other way!!! Because there isn’t! How can we waste any more of this precious time the Lord has Given us?
(If there is enough time go back and read 2 Peter 2)
