When we think about banners, we assume sport teams or even schools. We always want to be representing the teams that we care most about. I’m a pretty simple guys when it comes to sports.
College: Arkansas Razorbacks
MLB
NFL: Titans
MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
NHL: Predators
I want us to look at a passage tonight that reps a team that we can all get behind. We’ll dive in to the battle between the Amalekites and the Israelites. Some time’s we get lost in the hustle of life and we forget about the God that we serve. The same God that saves our soul from hell, but we forget that He has also called us to be strong and courageous in the way that we stand up against the things that this would has to throw against us.

In this passage we find Moses and the Israelites standing against the Amalekite army, preparing for battle. This is the first time since leaving Egypt that God’s chosen people has faced opposition of any kind while in the wilderness.
The Israelites had overcome much leading to this battle. They were enslaved, God freed them. They were hungry, God fed them. They were thirsty, God gave them water. All of these scenarios had been alleviated by God’s servant, Moses.
Moses was a mighty and a righteous man when it came to leadership because he relied heavily on God for His power and provision.
In this particular passage though, not even Moses was strong enough by himself to accomplish what was expected of him.
While Joshua led the troops on the ground, Moses’ job was to intercede for the troops. Lifting his hands to the Heavens to symbolize their dependence upon God. But he soon grew tired of standing and holding the staff up in the air.
Moses, the great commander, leader, and man, needed help from Aaron and Hur.
Even when the battle was said and done, Moses built and alter and named it “Yahweh Nissi” or “The Lord is my Banner”
When we turn our life over to God, He will make our name far greater than we ever could because there is power in surrender.

If we look closely, I think we can easily place ourselves in this situation and admit our own need for assistance.
Most of us have this mind set of I can do it myself, I can take care of myself, or I don’t need your help.
Even Moses, one of the greatest leaders to ever walk the face of this planet, came to a point where he had to depend on those around him to accomplish what God desired of him.
One of the biggest mistakes that we can make as Christians is believe that we have to do it all on our own. That has never been a part of God’s plan for mankind.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.”
There is power to be found in our weakness. Paul said it best when he said,
2 Corinthians
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

God is Glorified when we surrender to Him
He must increase, but I must decrease.”

So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
