Mark 9:1 CSB
1 Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”

Introduction
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus; there’s just something about that name. Master, Savior, Jesus, like the fragrance after the rain; Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, let all Heaven and earth proclaim Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, But there’s something about that name. Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, But there’s something about that name.
Mark 9:1 CSB
1 Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”

The Kingdom is not about worldly power.

Mark 9:1 CSB
1 Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”
Matthew 4:8–10 CSB
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus told him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.

Worldly power is a cheap substitute for God’s kingdom.

Matthew 4:8–9 CSB
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 And he said to him, “I will give you all these things if you will fall down and worship me.”
Illus: When we think of God’s rule on this earth, i.e. God’s kingdom we think about using man’s ways to produce God’s results.
One more time, we think about using man’s ways to produce God’s results.
What we end us building is a false kingdom that may bear God’s name, but does not is not God’s kingdom.
Throughout the history of the church we have messed up with this concept.
The crusades were an attempt to force people to into Godliness. Much of the atheism of eurpoe is the unraveling of nations whose identtity was christian, but whose people were not transformed by the gospel.
We fall into this trap today. We see politics as a way of bringing back a christian america.
There is only one way for a Christian America to come back, and the answer is found in a bloody cross and a risen savior.
(temptation of Jesus)
Mark 8:31–34 CSB
31 Then he began to teach them that it was necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and rise after three days. 32 He spoke openly about this. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning around and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! You are not thinking about God’s concerns but human concerns.” 34 Calling the crowd along with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

Worldly power is not the business of the believer. (When will you restore)

Illus: If God places us in a place of prominence, we should be good stewards of our influence for His glory.
Christianity’s strength has never been it’s worldly power.
Christianity grew out of a captive people whose hope was not in national freedom, but in spiritual freedom.
We get it backwards, we think, if we can get national power, people will listen to the gospel.
In china, the gospel is growing faster and faster. Recently a group of national pastors was interviewed. They said that their hope was that their people would not grow wealthy, or gain influence, because when those things happened, they saw little need for Jesus.
It is time we returned our hope to where it belongs, not in wealth, not in power, but in the bloody cross of Christ.
Acts 1:6–8 CSB
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

If the Kingdom is not about worldly power, then what is it?

Mark 9:1 CSB
1 Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”
Matthew 26:26–29 CSB
26 As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take and eat it; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 But I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

The kingdom is about making men holy and righteous.

Matthew 26:27–29 CSB
27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 But I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Illus: one part of the Bible’s teaching on the kingdom is it’s direct connection to the holiness of God.
You can’t separate the Bible’s kingdom from the character of God. They are inseparable. God saves us and calls us to a holy calling. His kingdom is redeeming us from the domain of darkness. He sanctifies us and makes us new.
Anything done in the name of God which does not bear the mark of God’s holy character is false.
God’s kingdom is all about transformation. It is leading people to the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, salvation, renewal by the Holy Spirit, and pursuit of the holy Character of God.
Matthew 6:33 CSB
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

The Kingdom is about eternity ushered in through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Illus: The entire storyline of the Bible is about God’s kingdom.
Adam and Eve lived in the kingdom of God, knew the wonder of walking and talking with God .
When Adam and Eve sinned, they moved from the kingdom of light to the kingdom of darkness.
Promised to bring his kingdom through crushing the serpent.
He made promises to Abraham, Moses and David.
He built an earthly kingdom to birth a heavenly kingdom through.
He prophesied about the future kingdom.
He was born, lived perfectly, died on the cross, rose from the dead, to usher in the new kingdom.
We cannot miss that God did not come to build an earthly kingdom, but instead a kingdom that is found only in the gospel through the transformation of the Holy Spirit.
John 3:1–3 CSB
1 There was a man from the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to him at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one could perform these signs you do unless God were with him.” 3 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:16–17 CSB
16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

What is our Kingdom business?

Mark 9:1 CSB
1 Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”
Matthew 6:9–10 CSB
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

God’s Kingdom is the eternal kingdom where men who have been transformed by the Gospel give all the glory to Jesus.

Illus: Do you want to see our nation turn back to Christ?
The devil will turn your ear and promise you all the kingdoms of the world if you simply choose man’s ways to produce God’s results.
If you want to see our nation turn back to christ, you must seek God’s kingdom through God’s means.
Instead of continuing down the road of worldly power that has left people angry, disillusioned, and upset, let us turn back to sacrificial love, and sharing the great news of a bloody cross and risen savior.
Matthew 24:12–14 CSB
12 Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 28:18–20 CSB
18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
