Starting fresh

Numbers 28:11 HCSB
“At the beginning of each of your months present a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old—all unblemished—
The offerings at the beginning of each month were a reminder. They were in addition to the regular daily sacrifices. Sometimes our communication with God becomes routine, our relationship with him is placed on autopilot. God knew this was a possibly so each month at the beginning of the month He provided a way to remind the children of Israel about who he was and why they followed and worshiped him.

Forget the Scratch and Dents

Numbers 28:11 HCSB

Numbers 28:11–12 HCSB
“At the beginning of each of your months present a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old—all unblemished— with six quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each bull, four quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for the ram,
notice the last two words of this verse… ALL UNBLEMISHED

Bare minimum isn’t enough

Numbers 28:12–14 HCSB
with six quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each bull, four quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for the ram, and two quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each lamb. It is a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, a fire offering to the Lord. Their drink offerings are to be two quarts of wine with each bull, one and a third quarts with the ram, and one quart with each male lamb. This is the monthly burnt offering for all the months of the year.
It’s tempting to do just enough to scrape by…but a real relationship requires going beyond just enough. It’s no different in our relationship with God.

A reason to celebrate

15 And one male goat is to be offered as a sin offering to the LORD, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its drink offering.

In all the New Moon Festivals there was one that was more important than all the others. Set aside to celebrate what was to come.
Leviticus 23:23–25 HCSB
The Lord spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you are to have a day of complete rest, commemoration, and joyful shouting —a sacred assembly. You must not do any daily work, but you must present a fire offering to the Lord.”
