It is so important that we understand the high and lofty nature of God
Without an understanding of the immutability of God…we can’t truly understand Him

God is unchanging in His Character

He is forever the same
Malachi 3:6 NIV
“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.
Psalm 102:26–27 NIV
They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
Psalm 103:17 NIV
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—
Every one of God’s attributes is unchanging
We can count on Him without reservation, because He doesn’t change…He isn’t wishy washy or prone to indecisiveness
James 1:17 NIV
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

God is unchanging in His Word

His Word can never be altered or changed
MHis Word is always true and dependable
Numbers 23:19 NIV
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
God never has to say “oops!” “Let me correct myself!”
Psalm 119:89 NIV
Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
Isaiah 40:8 NIV
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
Matthew 5:18 NIV
For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
Mt. 5:
…no cross of the “t” or dot of the “i” will change
The verbal and plenary inspiration and inerrancy of God’s Word
Luke 16:17 NIV
It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.
His word stays the same in every generation, culture, and location

God is unchanging in His Plans

There is no plan “B” with God: if He doesn’t change, why would His plans change?
If God is all wise, self-existing, eternally existent…Hi plans are the same
His purpose and plan is perfect just the way it is
Proverbs 19:21 NIV
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
James
It is a comfort to know that we can stand firm in the knowledge that God’s plans are perfect
Isaiah 14:26–27 NIV
This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations. For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

God is unchanging in His Salvation

God is unchanging in His Salvation

Romans 8:29–30 NIV
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
John 3:16 NIV
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 4:14 NIV
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 6:35 NIV
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 11:26 NIV
and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
