1. The word Doctrine is used 16 times in 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus!
When something is repeated it is often times something that we need to remember!
Doctrine. (Gk. didaskalia). Act of teaching or that which is taught. The use of the term in Scripture, however, is broader than a simple reference to information passed on from one person to another or from one generation to the next. Christianity is a religion founded on a message of good news rooted in the significance of the life of Jesus Christ. In Scripture, then, doctrine refers to the entire body of essential theological truths that define and describe that message (1 Tim. 1:10; 4:16; 6:3; Titus 1:9).
Here is what Jesus said about the doctrine of men
9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
Jude recorded that the christian is to contend earnestly for the faith.
Jude
3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul recorded in we are to strive together for the faith of the gospel.
27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,
Phil
Notice that we are to stand fast in one spirit, with one mind.
Notice we are to strive together
Notice the importance of the faith, or doctrine
Jesus said we are not to teach the doctrine of men.
Jude said we are to contend earnestly for the faith or the doctrine
Paul said we are to strive together for the faith or the doctrine.
2. This is why Paul was so concerned with doctrine to the young preachers Timothy and Titus.

15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Teaching Timothy and Titus the doctrine and how to handle the doctrine is how Paul was going to instruct them to know how to conduct themselves in the house of God, with is the church.
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
God’s word must be rightly divided!
This suggest that there is a wrong way to divide the word of God!
Paul would break down the word Doctrine in 10 ways for the young ministers Timothy and Titus to help them and the the one they were teaching to learn how to conduct themselves in the house of God.

1. “The Doctrine” is used 3 time.
1. “The Doctrine” is used 3 time.
Paul by using the words “The Doctrine” would be instructing Timothy and Titus that there is only one specific doctrine!
Lets examine these verses and see what Paul says to Timothy and Titus about “The Doctrine” as he instructs the young minister on how to conduct themselves in the house of God.
16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
1 Timothy
Notice take heed to yourself and to the doctrine.
Notice the singular case of “the doctrine”
This denotes that there is one body of doctrine and not many.
Notice what this singular doctrine does for them if they continue in it.
The doctrine and continuing it saves both them and the those who hear them.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Timothy
3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,
Notice once again the singular case of “The Doctrine”
They are to consent to “the doctrine” which accords with godliness.
Paul tells timothy to consent to the doctrine this means he is to give up his own will to “the doctrine”.
9 Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, 10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
Titus 2:
10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
Paul teaches Titus to teach bondservants not to:
Back talk.
Children this would apply to you.
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
This would apply to everyone else as well as we are all children of God.
5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
To steal
They are to show good fidelity or honesty so that they adorn “the doctrine” of God our Savior in “all” things.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
CONCLUSION:
CONCLUSION:
Next week we will continue with this because there are 9 more instructional phrases on doctrine from Paul to Timothy and Titus.
These all need to be considered as we learn how Paul instructed these young ministers on how to conduct themselves in the house of God, which is the church.
If we do not understand the importance of doctrine to the church then how can we understand how to act in the church that is to be governed by proper doctrine?
