       The value & importance of the Worldview Weekend Conference

                                                             Mt. 28:18-20                                     5/6/07 A.M.

Mt.28:18-20  18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Most often the emphasis of these scriptures is placed on the verb – ‘GO’, but when a study of the scripture is done, we find the emphasis is on the verb “MAKE DISCIPLES”

“GO”     πορευθέντες

153

πορεύομαι: Xð go, proceed, travel; conduct oneself, live, walk | NA27 Int.

verb, aorist, passive, participle, plural, nominative, masculine

“GO”  is passive

            passive The grammatical voice that signifies that the subject is being acted upon; i.e., the subject is the receiver of the verbal action. A verb in the passive voice with God as the stated or implied agent is often referred to as the “divine passive.”[1]

Notice the word “therefore”, which we have learned always, refers to the preceding statement/statements

Due to Christ’s authority, “therefore”, we “go”

Go, therefore and?

Proceed, therefore and?

Travel; therefore and?

Conduct oneself, therefore and?

Live, therefore and?

Walk  therefore and?

Make disciples      μαθητεύσατε

μαθητεύω: Xð to be a disciple, to make a disciple | NA27 Int.

verb, aorist, active, imperative, second person, plural

 DBL Greek  Louw-Nida  An Intermediate Greek-English Lexicon  TDNT  Enhanced Strong's Lexicon More »

 DBL Greek:

3411 μαθητεύω (mathēteuō): vb.; ≡ Str 3100; TDNT 4.461—

1. LN 36.31 follow, be a disciple, be a committed student (Mt 27:57; Ac 14:21+);

2. LN 36.37 make followers, make disciples (Mt 28:19+);

3. cf. LN 33.224-33.250 instruct, teach (Mt 13:52+)

“GO” is passive while the verb “MAKE DISCIPLES” is active, and imperative

active The grammatical voice that signifies that the subject is performing the verbal action or is in the state described by the verb.[2]

imperative The mood that normally expresses a command, intention, or exhortation. The imperative mood is therefore not an expression of reality but possibility and volition.

[3]

Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Go, and make disciples,teaching them

Go, therefore and make disciples, teaching them

Proceed, therefore and make disciples, teaching them

Travel; therefore and make disciples, teaching them

Conduct oneself, therefore and make disciples, teaching them

Live, therefore and make disciples, teaching them

Walk  therefore and make disciples, teaching them

Why is this command so important?

            Hosea 4:6  6      My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Examples;

2 Sam. 6:3,6-7  3 So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house

                           of Abinadab,

6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.

            Only 45/1100 evangelical students could answer 75/150 questions pertaining

                        To the Christian faith

            Only 9% of all adults in America that claim to be “born again” have a biblical

                        Worldview.

            Wacky theology;

                        Among born again Christians, 10% believe in reincarnation

                        29% believe it is possible to communicate with the dead

                        50% believe salvation can be earned by good works

The failure to “make disciples, teach them, & instruct them in the things of God” is seen in that;

70% - 88% of Christian students deny their faith before they graduate college,

This is in part because they have not been taught how to defend their faith

1Peter 3:15  15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; (a knowledgeable, intelligent answer)

The age of the earth

            Secular science will tell you it’s millions if not billons of years old

            But the bible says;

1.      God created the heavens and the earth in 6 days and rested on

                               the 7th day

2.      according to scriptures we find 6,000 years from creation to the present time

3.      Science itself refutes millions of years; amount of salt in the sea

Evidence for an infinite God

            Secular science promotes theories and assumptions as truth claiming;

1.      evolution;

a.       opposes biblical authority

                                                                                                   i.      because the bible says God created all things in 6 days

2.      the big bang;

a.       opposes biblical authority

                                                                                                   i.      this theory says, sun 1st then the earth

                                                                                                 ii.      but scripture says the earth was 1st then the sun

1.      Gen. 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2.      Gen. 1:16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.

3.      man is god

a.       Gen. 1:26 26 Then God said,  “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;

Evidence for an infinite God

Rom. 1:19-21 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Why I choose to believe the Bible

            It is a reliable collection of historical documents;

                        66 books

                        Written on 3 continents

                        Written in 3 languages;

                                    Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic

                        Written by over 40 authors over a period of 1,500 years

                        Over 23,000 archeological digs confirm the Bible

                        Names, places, and people are verifiable

            The bible was written by eyewitnesses;

2 Peter 1:16 16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

                        A minimum of 300 eyewitnesses still alive when the book of 1 Cor. Was

 Written

The bible reports supernatural events that took place;

In fulfillment of specific prophesies

                        Audible voice of God

                        Healings

                        Walking on water

It’s Divine origin

2 Peter 1:20 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

1 John 5:19  19 We know that … the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

How about you, are you under the sway of Satan, has he fooled you?
