Society as a whole, finds it rather easy to take, but terribly difficult to give thanks. As a matter of fact, Paul the apostle said that an unthankful attitude would be one of the characteristics of the “last days.” Paul said,
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Though none of us are as thankful as we should be, the Word of God tells us that, “…he (God) is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil” (
But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.
If there is any one thing for which we should be thankful today, it is the fact that God, in His mercy, is kind to the unthankful.
Let us give thanks to God today, because: He is Faithful, He is Forgiving and He is our Father...
I. HE IS FAITHFUL
Faithfulness Is Part Of God’s Character.
“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
God has never broken a promise; He is totally reliable.
“Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses.
The faithfulness of God should give us confidence in prayer.
‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
God Is Faithful Even In Our Calamities.
I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right,
And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
It’s terribly easy, in times of trouble and turmoil, to think that God has suddenly turned on us. But the psalmist realized that even when God allows affliction to come our way, He does so out of love and loyalty to us. The things that God often permits to happen in our lives are not always good. However, they work together for our ultimate good
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
God’s Faithfulness Is Continual.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
You established the earth, and it abides.
“For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
No one will ever be able to rightly accuse God of not being faithful; for there will never be a time when God is unreliable or undependable. He will always keep His Word. In fact...
God’s Faithfulness Stems From His Compassion.
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
God’s faithfulness comes out of His merciful loving kindness. If it were not for the love of God’s heart, the law of His holiness would demand and execute our judgment. As a matter of fact, Jesus’ death on Calvary for the sins of mankind satisfied the demands of God’s love, as well as His holiness.
II. HE IS FORGIVING
Our Forgiveness Is Only Through Christ.
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
Our Forgiveness Is One Of Completeness.
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
“…the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
One rainy day a young mother and her seven-year-old boy were driving through one of the main streets of their town. Little Matthew seemed to be pondering something as he stared at the windshield wipers doing their repetitious work. “Mom,” Matthew said. “I’ve been thinking about something.” “What’s that?” his mom asked. “The rain is like sin. And the windshield wipers are like God, wiping our sins away.” After the chill bumps stopped running up and down her arms, she said, “That’s really good, Matthew. Do you notice how the rain keeps on coming? What does that tell you?” Without any hesitation Matthew said, “WE KEEP ON SINNING AND GOD JUST KEEPS ON FORGIVING US”
Our Forgiveness Released Us From Sin’s Consequences.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
III. HE IS OUR FATHER
We Are Addressed As His Children.
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
We Are Assured Of His Care.
1. We are highly valued by our heavenly Father.
“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
2. God cares for us so much that He directs and disciplines us.
And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:
“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
3. God cares for us so much that He is concerned about everything that concerns us.
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
We Are Accompanied By His Companionship.
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Let us give thanks to God today, because:
I. HE IS FAITHFUL
II. HE IS FORGIVING
III. HE IS OUR FATHER
