The term ‘mount’ is applied to an isolated mountain or a notable peak or specialized summit within a range, e.g., Mounts Ebal, Seir, Gerizim, Gilboa, Hermon, Nebo, Tabor, Sinai or Horeb, Carmel, Olives, Zion, and others.
Each of these mounts has religious associations, for throughout the ancient world mounts or mountains were imbued with religious significance and symbolism.
