Intro:
Salvation is not an afterthought of God.
God had a sovereign plan to save a good portion of the human race.
God had a sovereign plan to save a good portion of the human race.
This gift is given in Christ. No one comes to the father except they come through Christ.
This gift is given in Christ. No one comes to the father except they come through Christ.
Some describe doctrine of election as God looking through history from eternity and seeing our response to his call and based on that foreknowledge God knowing all things he choose you.
Just as God chose Jacob over Esau before either one had done anything good or bad, God chose us not because of our works or decision but because it was his choice to make.Because of
God’s grace we ought to praise him.
So, we belong to him and we have been placed in an exalted position.
He chose us before there was a when or where a here or there.
He adopted us as his sons and daughters
Paul now transitions from talking about the blessings of redemption to describing our condition.
There is an attempt to reconstruct Christianity.
many focus on what the church is doing for people.
the thrust of our message is about salvation.
People want Christianity without redemption.
we want to be like Christ without being released from sin.
at the heart of the message we preach is a God who redeems his people.
everybody is not going to be free.
Redemption suggests somethings wrong with me and I was unable to fix the problem I had.
So, we want to come to Christ on our terms and be transformed on our terms.
This is the reason many are trying to claim Christianity without dealing with their sin.
Man want to believe he is better than what God says.
God says man is lost and in need of a Saviour, he is filthy.
Man want to believe there is something good in everybody.
We are redeemed from the bondage and power of sin.
Redeemed- to be released
forgiveness- to be released; he is not holding anything against us.
the dog on the corner of 23rd and prospect tied to the tree.
Sin is to miss the mark.
People are struggling because of sin their are missing the mark.
trying to be happy and missing the target at the same time.
Focus on Bondage and Power of sin.
Bondage- slavery
Power- the ability to do things by virtue of strength, skill, resources, or authorization.
Sin seprates us from God.
Being redeemed changes how we see life.
we live with an appreciation for the one who released us.
we see life through the lens of hope.
The riches of God’s grace
can reach any debt.
Conclude with: I have owned you twice.
I have owned you twice.
