1 The Lord spoke to Moses: “Go up from here, you and the people you brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying: I will give it to your offspring.
2 I will send an angel ahead of you and will drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hethites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
3 Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go up with you because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
4 When the people heard this bad news, they mourned and didn’t put on their jewelry.
5 For the Lord said to Moses: “Tell the Israelites: You are a stiff-necked people. If I went up with you for a single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.”
6 So the Israelites remained stripped of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.
7 Now Moses took a tent and pitched it outside the camp, at a distance from the camp; he called it the tent of meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult the Lord would go to the tent of meeting that was outside the camp.
8 Whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would stand up, each one at the door of his tent, and they would watch Moses until he entered the tent.
9 When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and remain at the entrance to the tent, and the Lord would speak with Moses.
10 As all the people saw the pillar of cloud remaining at the entrance to the tent, they would stand up, then bow in worship, each one at the door of his tent.
11 The Lord would speak with Moses face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend, then Moses would return to the camp. His assistant, the young man Joshua son of Nun, would not leave the inside of the tent.

Don’t miss how hopeless we would be without the presence of God.

Illus: When I breath I take oxygen for granted. Most days I breath without thinking. I just do it.
yet for life and function, there is little as important than air. WIhtout air, you could not survive one moment.
Have we taken the presence of God for granted? Do we just go through the motions, never searching, never longing for God’s presence?
A church who does not have the spirit of God is no different than a body without air.
We are lifeless.
Far to often when thinking about corporate worship and the church, we think about style, music, and other secondary things.
The core of worship is whether we meet the presence of God here. Everything else is secondary.
7 But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ.
8 More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ
God is present when we are humble.
God is present when we are humble.

Illus: Let us think through the oxymoron of the way we do church.
We say, I want the music at church to be pleasing to my ears.
We say, I want the programs of the church to be tailored to my life.
We say, I want the sermon to be interesting, not to long, funny, etc.
This has not come out of any gripes or complaints… but truthfully we treat church like it is a business, and we are it’s consumers. If the church does not meet your needs, there is a church that will meet your needs.
This heart which is rampant across our country and in our city it the very heart which quenches the spirit of God.
If you want to see the Spirit of God work among us, the first step is stop worshiping ourselves at church, and humility pursue God alone.
6 But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
7 Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Corporate worship is all about God.
Corporate worship is all about God.

The center focus of our worship should be God alone.

Illus: Can you imagine what worship would be like if we actually believe we would encounter God together?
Instead of a morning that you go to church because it is a part of your life, you actually believed you would experience the awe and wonder of God.
Would it change the way you came? Would it change how often you came? Would it change you heart when you came?
The change in our worship would be phenomenal… if we actually came for the right reasons.
Our God is a living God. He desires to know us. Our church is His bride, and we are his beloved. It is time we stopped treating God’s bride as if she were an option or business that caters to our wants.
This should be the theme of our worship
36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.
Corporate worship is when we are gathered in humility to give God the reverence He deserves.

Illus: at the front of our church we have prayer rails. They are there so that you can physically humble yourself before God.
I know when I preach a sermon and God convicts you there is this temptation to say, I don’t want to go down, someone might think there is something wrong with me.
Deeply, God is working in the lives of people across this church. What is keeping you from moving forward often is your pride.
We cannot move forward until we are willing to crucify our pride. Unless we are willing to publicly follow God in humility, we will remain stuck.
5 Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at his footstool. He is holy.
Corporate worship bring us into God’s presence.

God will meet us when we approach Him rightly.

Illus: We are coming to that moment in the service where I offer an invitation. This is not just a time for that person sitting next to you. It is your time.
Do you want to see God work in your life?
Do you want to see God work in the lives of people at our church?
The first step today is a step of humility. It is a step admitting to your pride. It is a step intimidating sin to God. It is a step coming to God to meet him.
We can play church, and go through the same motions week after week, or you can choose to humble yourself and meet with God today.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be zealous and repent.
20 See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
10 My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death,
11 assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.
