Step 1: Spend Time with Jesus

When we start talking about investing in what God calls us to do, or to go all in for God, many of us immediately start thinking about all of the things that God tells us that we are supposed to do.
We have to be Jesus’ witnesses, we have to care for people who are in need, we have to adopt all of the orphans, free all the sex slaves, share the gospel with all the lost people, serve the needy, go to the nations, make disciples of new believers, go to church, love my neighbor, bear the burdens of people in the church, honor my father and mother, pray for the sick, liberate the captives, show hospitality to lonely people.
We immediately think about William Carey’s quote, “Attempt Great things for God, expect great things from God...”
Okay, I have to go tell everyone I see about the gospel, I have to care for people who are in need, I have to adopt all of the orphans, I have to free all the sex slaves, serve the needy, go to the nations that have never heard and tell them about the good news of Jesus. I have to make disciples, so I have to meet with people every week to read through the Bible and teach them to follow Jesus. I have to go to church, love my neighbor, bear the burdens of people in the church, honor my father and mother, pray for the sick, liberate the captives, show hospitality to lonely people, love my wife like Christ loved the church. I have to love and shepherd my kids…and on and on and on…
That is how our minds work…when we think about going all in for God…investing our lives for God’s glory, we immediately make a list of all of the things that we have to do for God.
But when we start thinking that we have to do a bunch of stuff for God in order to live for Him, we are making a huge mistake. Because God actually calls us to do one thing, to be with Him.
Look with me at
Mark 3:13–14 ESV
And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach
mark 3:13-
Mark tells us that Jesus called his the men that he chose up on a mountain—
