Lost Book of the Law
THE LOST BOOK OF THE LAW
1: Hilkiah Discovers Lost Book of the Law
Hilkiah Discovers Lost Book of the Law
2 CHRONICLES 34:14 “When they were bringing out the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord given by Moses.”
A] How long had the book been lost?
B] Hilkiah was a Priest but didn’t know where the Book was?
C] It seems they have been just making things up as they go. Without the book (Bible) people do what they want to do. What feels right to them at the time. Political correctness moves in.
23 She said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me, 24 thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am bringing evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the curses written in the book which they have read in the presence of the king of Judah. 25 “Because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place and it shall not be quenched.” ’
“ 23 She said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me, 24 thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am bringing evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the curses written in the book which they have read in the presence of the king of Judah. 25 “Because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place and it shall not be quenched.” ’

D] Even today, churches and individuals that don’t know where the Bible is (or study it) tend to move further and further away from the truth.
2: Where was the Book?
15 Hilkiah responded and said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.
A] It was in Gods house the whole time! Obviously, no one had been looking for it!
a} Where is your Bible? Many may have one in their home but do they open it and study it?
He who gives attention to the word will find good, And blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
He who gives attention to the word will find good,
And blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
b} “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in
one body; and be thankful. 16Let the word of One early ms reads the
LordChrist richly dwell within you,...”
b} “Be diligent (STUDY KJV) to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
Where do we learn about the “PEACE of Christ”? Where do we learn the Word so it
can dwell in us? ANSWER: From the “BOOK”!
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
3: What did they do after they found the Book? “Moreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king saying, “Hilkiah the priest gave me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.”
18 Moreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king saying, “Hilkiah the priest gave me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.
& “Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.30 The king went up to the house of the Lord and all the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites and all the people, from the greatest to the least; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the Lord.
&
29 Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
“Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.30 The king went up to the house of the Lord and all the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites and all the people, from the greatest to the least; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the Lord.

They gathered EVERYONE to READ & hear the words and DO what was written! They didn’t hide what they read. They didn’t limit it to just a select few, they gathered EVERYONE to hear the words of “THE BOOK”!
A] “Be diligent (STUDY KJV) to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
B] We should appreciate that we have God’s word so readily available! Everywhere you go one can find a Bible! WalMart, Dollar Tree, Books A Million etc.
a} Has not always been so! Many have died translating or even possessing a Bible!
b} Before the printing press, the only copies of the word were hand written copies! What few churches had a copy, they chained somewhere in the building.
c} There was time one could only hear words from the Bible IF the priest read them. A lot of times it was in Latin. People where at the mercy of what the Priest told
them. This of course opened the door to error and abuse!
d} Could be put to death if caught reading the Bible!
4: Once they read the Book, what did they do? “ When the king heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.” Repented!
“But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus you will say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel regarding the words which you have heard, 27 “Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and because you humbled yourself before Me, tore your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares the Lord.
26 “But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus you will say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel regarding the words which you have heard,
27 “Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and because you humbled yourself before Me, tore your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares the Lord.
a} For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
When the king heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.
a} For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
5: Departing from God’s word doesn’t happen over night. For whatever reason, people will lose interest. It sometimes starts with missing a Wednesday night service, then Sunday night, a few Sunday mornings etc.
a}Soon the Book is placed on a shelf and sin creeps in.
b} The sooner this is recognized and zeal replaced, the better everyone is! No only the individual but church as well!
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may dprove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;”
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function,
5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
6: FIND THE BOOK! If you have lost it, seek it out and find it! Study it, let the words bring you to repentance and remembrance of ALL God’s blessings! No one can do it for you!
7: One of the greatest blessing we find in the BOOK, is the plan of Salvation!
Hear, Believe, repent, confess Jesus is the Son of God and be Baptized for the remission of sins: Acts 2:38
