Isaiah 9:6 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
We are so excited to be here with you today. It brings us great joy to be able to come down to Haiti and fellowship with all of you. We love spending time with all of you, we love sharing the gifts with you that have been sent from the churches in America. But more than anything we love coming down and sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ with you! It is our desire to preach to you the good news of Jesus Christ, being born of a virgin 2000 years ago, so that he might live a sinless life as a man, and then die a sacrificial death on the cross in our place, be buried and rise again so that you and I might have forgiveness of our sins. We love looking back to this great gift, the fact that God have his Son, so that whoever will believe in Him might have eternal life.
But this morning instead of just looking back at the birth of Jesus I want to share with you a passage of Scripture that points forward to the birth of Jesus! Did you know before Jesus was born, men of God were already prophesying he would be born, that a savior would come to save us from our sins? They did from Genesis to Micah the Bible tells us of a coming Savior who would save God’s people from their sins. Do you want to hear about this Savior?
Here is what the prophet Isaiah says in Chapter 9 verse 6.
Isaiah 9:6 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:
700 years before Jesus was born, Isaiah tells us of the gift God was going to give His people. Before, Mary and Joseph were born, the birth of Jesus was predicted. This baby was not just any baby, but one who would come for a specific purpose with supernatural power! I want you to listen really closely because for the next few minutes I want to explain to you the greatest gift you could ever imaging, that God has given for all who would repent and believe!

I. A Son is Given

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given
He is born as we are with an earthly mother.
He is born differently than we are with a Heavenly Father
He is both fully God and Fully man.
He is given to us so that we might be saved from our sins.
The coming son is also,

II. A Sovereign Ruler

Notice what Isaiah says, and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
This Son will have greater authority than all earthly rulers.
He has the right to rule over all kings and kingdoms, because He created them!
He has this right because He is perfect and righteous, He has never committed any sin or has a sinful motive.
He even installs these earthly rulers that ever thing they do is because He allowed them to do it.
This Son will have greater power than any governor, president, or king.
No other ruler has ever been able to accomplish the things Christ has done or will do.
He doesn’t just talk about what He will accomplish, he will accomplish it!
This Son will be give to rule the nations from America, Africa, to Haiti there will be no one who is not under His rule.
One day when He returns, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord! This is the child Isaiah is talking about!
Have you ever heard of a baby that would be born, and be the ruler of all 700 years before he was coming?
Isaiah is about to give us the names of this son that is given, he is about to explain who this child is and what this coming son would do.
This Son’s name is,

III. Wonderful Counselor

This child that was born, came to bring godly wisdom to a wretched world. He came as one who has all wisdom and knowledge.
Without the wonderful counselor we would remain children of wrath!
We all would be ignorant of the impending judgment to come.
We would have no understanding of our need for a Savior.
None of us would understand the Father’s love for us if Christ had not come to teach us.
As our Wonderful Counselor Jesus corrects our wrong thinking, instructs us in the ways of God, and teaches the truth about our need for salvation.
Not only is Jesus Christ the Wonderful Counselor, he is also,

IV. Mighty God

God himself came in the flesh, the Second person of the trinity was was given as a baby boy! He was born in a barn, the lowliest of places and was fully man, but at the same time full God.
The God who spoke and the earth was created.
The God who rained down judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah.
The God who parted the sea and stacked water up on two sides so his people might escape.
The God who continually defeated the enemy armies of His people.
The God who is able to raise people from the dead.
The God who will one day judge the whole earth, while at the same time save his people from this judgement.
This Mighty God is the one who came in a manger, born as a baby, who would one day die as a lamb, and three days later rise from the dead. All of this proved this child born in the manger was none other than the Might God who came to save his people from theirs sins.
This Mighty God was given to all who would believe!
He has another name,

V. Everlasting Father

Before the earth was from the Father of eternity was. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit hovered over the earth before creation. Jesus Christ has always been and will always be.
1 Peter 1:20 ESV
He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you
The Father of all creation sent the Son who emptied himself, by taking on the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. ()
Paul tells us in Colossians, He is,
The image of the invisible God.
The firstborn of all creation.
By him all things were created,
Through him all things were created, and
For Him all things were created.
He is before all things,
In Him all things hold together,
He is the head of the body, the church.
He is the beginning,
He is the firstborn from the dead,
For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell!
This is the Everlasting Father that entered into the world to reconcile all things to Himself!
Jesus Christ this child that was given was not only the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, He is also,

VI. Prince of Peace

He came that he might conquer the evil one. He came that he might preach the Gospel and call his people to repentance and faith. He came to set the captive free, to open the eyes of the blind, to heal the lame, and make peace between man and God.
We are all at war with God, without the Wonderful Counselor we don’t even realize it. We are enemies of God, but the Prince of Peace came that we might have peace with God.
Jesus Christ this child was given that he might come and be the lamb of God, making peace by the blood of the cross!
Jesus hung on the cross in our place so that we might have peace. He was crucified for you and me so that when He returns to reign for eternity we might no have the wrath or anger of God poured out on us.
Jesus rose from the dead so that he would defeat sin, death, and the devil that wage war against our souls. Because the Prince of Peace was given to all those who would believe, we can be brought back into right relationship with God. All those who repent and believe will be presented holy and blameless to the father when Christ returns!
Have you recieved this Peace offered by the Prince of Peace,
The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords? The bible tells us,
John 1:12 ESV
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
Have you believed in His name? Have you become a child of God? If he is calling you today turn from your sin and trust in Him.
The Scriptures also tell us,
Romans 10:9 ESV
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
and
Romans 10:13 ESV
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Before we go into the classrooms and receive this small gift, I beg you call on the LORD and ask him for the eternal gift who Isaiah said was given as,
The Wonderful Counselor who walked with us to bring wisdom of the wrath to come.
The Mighty God who was was made manifest in a manger that we might become children of God.
The Everlasting Father who came that those who believe might receive eternal life.
The Prince of Peace who put on flesh to purchase peace for his people.
