Love Your Neighbor - Part 3
Love Your Neighbor - Part 3
Kidz World Today - Children’s Church
14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
Love Your Neighbor
We have looked at this text in the context of Who is My neighbor - Luke 10:25-37! The parable of the Good Samaritan and last week looked at Uncommon Thankfulness - The Story of the 10 Lepers!
Today I want to look at what the bible says about Love!
18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
Love
The bible reminds us that the best or superior quality of life is a Life Of Love
Some may think that a superior spiritual life is one of spiritual gifts - the bible says not so, but that the way to live your life in the most excellent manner is to share your love!
The Way Of Love
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
Verdict one: tongues without love are meaningless
Gifts without love are nothing
8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
There is always the danger of feeling and acting superior because of your spiritual or prophetic gifts
3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
If you give without loving there is no spiritual gain! There is no profit
Love Your Neighbor - Love Yourself!
4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love "suffers long" means having patient with people.
The word always refers to being patient with people, not with circumstances! Love suffers a long, long time without resentment, anger, or seeking revenge. Love controls itself in order to win the person and to help him to live, work, and serve as he should.
Love is kind
Love is courteous, good, helpful, useful, giving, showing and showering favors.
Love does not resent; it does not live in the hurt and neglect. Love reaches out in kindness: in helpfulness, in giving, and in showering favors upon the person who neglects or hurts themselves
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Love does not envy - Love is not jealous!
Love does not have feelings against someone because of what they have, You can’t love and be jealous of people because of their talents or gifts, position, friends, recognition, possessions, popularity, abilities. Love does not attack or downplay the abilities and success of others. Love shares and joys and rejoices in the experience and good of others.
26 We must not be proud or make trouble with each other or be jealous of each other.
Love is not boastful
Love does not brag or seek recognition, honor, or applause from others.
Love seeks to give: to recognize, to honor, to applaud the other person.
3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Love is not prideful
Love is not puffed up or arrogant, conceited; does not think or act as though you are better or above others.
Love is modest and humble and recognizes and honors others.
4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Love does not behave rudely
Love does not behave indecently, unmannerly, disgracefully. Love does nothing to shame people!
Love is orderly and controlled; and it behaves and treats everyone with respect, honoring and honoring who they are.
Love is not selfish
Love is not focused on who you are or what you have done.
Love seeks to serve, not have others serving oneself. Love is acknowledging others, not insisting that others acknowledge oneself; it is giving to others, not insisting that others give to oneself.
24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.
Love is not easily angered!
Love controls the emotions, and never becomes angry without a cause
18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
Love does not think to do evil!
Love does not consider the wrong suffered; Love is not resentful; Love forgets the things done wrong to oneself
15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.
Love does not rejoice in wrong-doing.
Love does not take pleasure in the unrighteousness and sin of others; it does not feed upon sin and wrong, nor does it pass along the stories of sin and wrong. Man's nature is too often fed the tragedy of evil, whether personal sin or natural disaster
1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
Love rejoices in the truth
Love rejoices when the truth is known and when it prevails;
Love rejoices when others are recognized and promoted for whom they are and for what they have contributed.
Love rejoices when the truth is rooted and grounded in a person and among the people of the world.
Love never covers nor hides the truth; love is courageous in that it faces the truth.
16 But this is what you must do: Tell the truth to each other. Render verdicts in your courts that are just and that lead to peace.
Love covers all things and to bear up under all things.
Love does both: it stands up under the weight and onslaught of all things and it covers up the faults of others.
It has no pleasure in exposing the wrong and weaknesses of others.
Love bears up under any neglect, abuse, ridicule—anything that is thrown against it.
13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Love is completely trusting!
Love sees and understands the circumstances and accepts and forgives and believes the very best about a person.
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Love hopes - it expects the good to eventually triumph and to gain the victory
Love refuses to accept failure; it always hopes for the best and for the ultimate triumph of the good—no matter how fallen or how tragic the fall or how difficult gaining the victory may seem.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope,
17 comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
Love endures all things
The word endures is a military word meaning to stand against the attack of an enemy.
Love actively fights and endures all attacks.
Love is strong, full of fortitude and fight, and it struggles against any and every assault to buckle in to being unloving. Love conquers and triumphs—always—because it endures all things.
No matter what attacks love, named or unnamed, it endures the attack and continues to love.
22 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
Love never fails, never ceases, and never vanishes. Love endures and lasts forever
We are commanded to Gal 5:14
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
