Big Idea

Jesus seeks to bring those who are walking in the darkness of sin into his Kingdom buy the Light and power of the Gospel.
The purpose of John using this story is to demonstrate the state of spiritual blindness.
Jesus finds the blind man. The blind man in this text is not looking for Jesus.
Distorted view of Sin & the Fallenness of Man
The disciples like many of the religious Jews of that day believed that sins such as blindness, physical impairment, and mental impairments were a direct result of the practice of sin and God’s judgment, especially if the impairment came from birth the parents would be implicated in the practice of sin. Much like Jobs friends who said his affliction as a direct result of him being in a sinful state with God.
Our sinful state and Jesus (The Fallen condition focus of this text)
The problem was an incomplete and arrogant view of the nature, status and power of sin
1. All mankind before salvation are under the curse of sin and therefore sinners by nature at birth
a. Psalm 14:1–3; Psalm 53:1–3;Romans 3:10–12;
2. There is no one that is spiritually righteous outside of Jesus
3. All or creation experiences the effects of sin to include biological, physiological and psychological decay eventually succumbing to death.
a. Titus 3:3
b. Eph 2:1-3
c. Romans 8:18-22
God purposes to use the mans blindness comes at his appointed time
God is looking for believers to do his work while they have time, because there is coming a day when the light of life will not empower your physical body.
We are the light of the world (because the Holy Spirit Jesus & Gods Spirit dwells in those who believe)
The healing process wasn’t spectacular, grandiose it was simply go and wash,
oh how if we would just go and wash in the water of his word
Peoples disbelief at the transformation
Just because God changes you and blesses you with greater spiritual insight doesn’t mean that everyone is going to believe, accept or appreciate your new transformation.
