After David blessed the Lord the word says He blessed the people
2 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD 3 and distributed to all Israel, both men and women, to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.
The ark of the covenant has arrived David has danced before the Lord to the point he literally dance out his clothes. David continues the praise and worship experience by offer ing burnt and peace offerings to the Lord! These offerings were offered out of gratitude unto the Lord.
This is a reminder to us today on this Thanksgiving morning that our praise is out of gratitude. We could have been consumed this week. We could have went to sleep and not woke up.
Think about what happened this week at Mercy hospital. I’ve been to that hospital. That tragedy could have happened on a day I was there. As a matter of fact we don;t know where the next tragedy will occur. We must thank God every day that it was not our job, our church or any where we are that a similar event hasn’t happened.
We have become unsatisfied with what the Lord has given us. Its ok to desire greater but are you thankful for what he has already done.
The word said David blessed the people men and women alike with a loaf of bread, a portion of meat and a raisin cake. If someone gave you that you might say is that it? Yet the word said David blessed the people which indicates that they we happy. When we see the word blessed referring to God is baruk and refers to praising God. I will bless the Lord at all times. Bless his holy name. Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me. Get the picture. When you see bless referring to people its not praise but denotes a state of happiness.
Blessed is the man who walked not in the counsel of the un Godly. Happy is the man. So when David blessed the people they were put in a state of happiness. See i have a problem with people saying I’m blessed and they look like someone stole their lunch money! Our blessed state denotes a level of happiness. A level of joy! This is why Paul tell us to rejoice in the Lord!
David was blessed and he wanted to be a blessing to others. How many want to be a blessing to someone?
David is so excited that he recalls what has been said of the Lord already.
David makes selections from four psalms already known. The first fifteen verses (viz. 8–22) are from . The next eleven verses (23–33) are from ; . Our thirty-fourth verse is identical with ; ; ; and forms the larger part of .
First we should have a sense of gratitude!
Second we should include others in the Praise
Praise should be assigned, coordinate, intentional,
Praise should be assigned, coordinate, intentional, nave lack luster praise at home. David appointed some of the Levites as ministers (servants) to come before the Lord! They had three responsibilities TO INVOKE, TO THANK and TO PRAISE!
Tho invoke means to call on the name of the Lord. To pray and to appeal to the Lord. How many ask the Lord to meet you at church this morning? We have to invite the Holy Spirit to be in worship with us. Many time we come to church and go through religious formalities. I dont know about you but i need more than formalities. I need to be in the very presence of God. I need a refreshing. I need an awakening! I cant get stuck on an order of service i need my service to be ordered by the Lord.
To Thank.. A simple thank you goes a long way even with God. If we can just thank him for what he has already done. This word Thank is the root word of Thanks giving. There is no thanksgiving without thanks. Many folks who are opposed to Thanksgiving because they feel its a imperial holiday. Since the pilgrims stole the land from the native Americans and was there really a turkey involved. I cant tell you! I look at thanksgiving not has a time to celebrate pilgrims in boots and tall hats but a time to thank the Lord in a big way for his bountiful blessings. Yes he has been good to me. He has blessed me. He keeps me clothed and in my right mind. Food on my table. Yes he worthy of the praise! How many can testify he is worthy. Im trying to find out why some folks have problems with thank the Lord. Obvoiusly they have not been through anything but to the 10 or so of us that came through some seen and unseen dangers, had our share of ups and down, Been through a storm or two. We say i have to say thank you. THANK YOU! THANK YOU LORD. If you say thank you enough thats when the praise party begins. David his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Thats the difference between thanks and praise. Thank speaks to the Lord with gratitude Praise shares with everyone else what the Lord has done. Look at what David said in his psalm.
8 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
10 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
