Attention
There is a reason Thanksgiving is in November and not January.
If we celebrated the holiday in January there wouldn’t much of the year to be thankful for.
We understand that and so did the author of Psalms when he penned like to call this Psalm the Words of the Redeemed, because that is exactly what it is and if you are know Jesus you too will be saying the same things.
Situation
is a story just like the majority of the Bible.
But in this story the main character is not the redeemed but the Lord.
It is the people of God who experience all kinds of trouble but it is through that pain that we see the beauty of God.
Because the actions of God tells us exactly who He is and who We are as well.
Solution
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
The opening line of like most opening lines tells us what the entire Psalms will be all about.
The author tells us there is reason to give thanks or praise to God and the reason is two fold.
He is Good.
His steadfast love endures forever!
It is on these two simple and intriguing truths by which we are called to praise God and give Him thanks.
The idea of love and goodness goes far beyond simple prayer requests, the Psalmist conveys the idea that the goodness of God is good enough, but an added bonus is God’s unending, unrelenting love.
Love is the exact description of who God is so it is no wonder that the love from God is unending.
In just the first 9 verses we have before us a beautiful story.
The redeemed are gathered to a singular location but from many locations.
Some of them wandered in the deserted places they were without a home.
They were hungry and thirsty.
But when they call out to the Lord by a straight way until they have a place to dwell in.
The Story continues
Psalms 107:10-16
Psalms 107:
Some are in darkness and under the very shadow of death because of their rebellion against the Most High.
But when they cried out to God...
He brought them out of darkness and burst their bonds apart.
Psalms 107:
Psalms 107:
I love the ending of this Psalm.
After all they have gone through, we find that the redeemed are diminished, brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow.
But The Lord raises up the needy out of affliction!
The redeemed are preserved not by their own actions but by the actions of the Lord.
The righteous are glad and all wickedness and evil can not even speak.
Finally it says, whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.
is a Journey
is a journey and in all along the journey the followers of God are brought through terrible situations.
They are hungry, oppressed, homeless, near death, even full of sinfulness and wickedness.
But they are redeemed because of two very important actions:
They cried out to the Lord in their trouble.
He delivered them.
Everytime the people cried out to God, He listened and delivered them.
When this happens the Psalmist says, “Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!”
The redeemed are full of praise and thanksgiving not because they have some great amount of faith, but because they have experienced the steadfast love of God.
was written after the events it records.
Which is why the theme of the Psalm rings true and powerful.
The theme of should be our theme as well
The theme of is found 4 times.
This theme should be the theme of your life as well.
Thank the Lord for his steadfast love and for his wondrous works to the children of man!
Conclusion
All the actions of God are done because of the outpouring love of God.
Appeal
Maybe you see yourself in .
Have you been oppressed, deserted, hungry, homeless, thirsty, poor, in need, wicked?
Cry out to the Lord and He will deliver you. is a story, which means it has already happened and if it has happened in the past, it could happen to you as well.
Cry out to the Lord and then you too will be able to say Thank the Lord for His Steadfast Love!
