We are called to work together to present the world with the body of Christ. Sounds pretty crazy, but we aren't individually one body but togather we represent the body of Christ. When we suffer the body reacts, when we are honored the body gets excited. It's not easy to be part of the body, we are selfish and conceited, but with the exciting influence of the Holy Spirit in us we can do it.

HOW IS BODY GOING TO SURVIVE?

Our bodies are so confusing

Ever noticed, that you have a good amount of things to manage in your own body? My nails grow super fast and my hair looks terrible when grows out. It would be so much easier if I don’t have to deal with each of these things.

Each part needs its care to be the most effective it can be.

Thought these parts are definitely difficult to manage, they kind serve a pretty important part in the body. Best case scenario, when we start discounting certain parts as less useful that's when we realize how helpful they can be. The trouble comes, when we never see their value and keep them without value. That’s when we limit ourselves, we will reach our true potential if we don’t use everything we got, for what its worth.

Q: What does this have to do with being a Christian?

A: Everything.

Let’s Check the Bible

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts.

We are the Body

So, when the bible says “body” it means the body. Let’s explain it like this...

The Experiment

Let’s try something… Is there someone who would like to be our guinea pig?(pick a leader, have them stand up front with a glass in front of themselves on the ground. Then assign each person in the crowd a part of the leaders body.)
Say this...
We are going to as a group use our body (point to the leader) to pick up and drink from the glass in front of use. Each one of you needs to give instruction to the body to move. Our body won’t do anything that isn’t said, and the body will only do what the part has told to do. For instance, if I were the right leg and I said, “lift up the right leg from the knee about a foot”, this would happen (signal to leader to move). Now, I have taken the liberty to have the brain, ears, and eyes to be unified in the body of our guinea pig, so our guinea pig will control those parts to benefit the body. As for the rest of the parts they will be signaled from the audience.
Take some time to let the youth play the game.
(when they succeed) That was pretty great, you guys did great. Hopefully this helps us to see the body Paul was talking about, but that was a “simple” task, what about something more intricate. I’m not sure that comes naturally to us together, this requires us to get comfortable working together. Any person went through that awkward stage of learning how to walk, drink, and eat. But eventually we need to become more mature together and this takes proper maintenance. So our next question should be, how do we keep this body healthy and growing? Let’s take a look at how that works...
Now in order to keep this body health there is some maintenance that is required. But, that’s the question, how do we keep this body healthy? Let’s take a look at how that works...

What keeps this body healthy?

Today I want to look at three ways the body of Christ can stay healthy and grow into more effective moves.

Unify

When the church started after Jesus died, was resurrected, came to show himself to the disciples and when back to the Father, they had to get comfortable with each other. They lived, ate and grow together. listen to this...

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

We don’t play games together pointlessly, we know you guys are awesome and we want you all to connect with each other. We know that if we can stick you together, you all will find your connection and build your fine motor skills as the body of Christ.

Win/Lose together

The concept of winning and losing together is found in our ability to love. Do you really care about other people or are you more interested in your own needs?
Winning, takes a person that is OK with themselves. If you aren’t grounded in your own skills and abilities, often you will find yourself comparing, jealous, or prideful.
Losing, is a bit different. Let me start of by explaining what i mean by losing, it’s simply being able to have compassion for someone who is going through a struggle or is hurting. In order to show this kind of compassion, we need to actually care about other people.
How do we get there?
First, It helps to know Christ, He is our Lord and Savoir. His example can be used to keep us focus on the right way to live our lives.
Second, activation the Holy Spirit in your life. We want to pray for the Holy Spirit in you, but sometimes you don’t know to ask for help.
Third, accepting what Jesus setup before He went back to the Father, the Church. This place is meant to be a place of encouragement, respect, care and discipline.
What do I want to see as we continue? that this body would learn fine motor skils so we can do more than just taking a drink. Instead, we see faith to heal, do miracles, speak into each others lives and so much more.
