Intro:

What have we talked about previously?
V.1-2
Paul is asking a serious question, it’s a question that many of us should ask ourselves.
Now that our old man is dead, should we continue to live in this sin? Our answer should be no!
We say no, but our lives say Just Kidding…
We see it all the time, people profess to know God, but then boom, they are still living in that sin that God hates.
Too many times, we have an encounter with God, and then we aren’t changed.
Look around, and you’ll see it, it’s sad! We see it after our camps, it always happens, and it shouldn’t.
I hate seeing people have this experience at camp, and then come back and fall back into the same old crap. I hate it because it happened to me…
I wish I could make you guys not do that, but I can’t.. That’s your own choice.
It’s just time to start taking your christian walk seriously… It’s time to make sure you’re really saved, and not just playin the roll.
V. 3-4
We are all baptized with Christ, we are covered with Christ...
We were buried with Him!
When you come to salvation, your old man… the person who you were is dead, and then God creates a newness in you.
You cannot keep living in the same sin, if there’s no conviction then there is a problem.
V. 5-7
If you have be united with Christ, then you will be resurrected like he was.
If your old man is dead and you are now alive in Christ, then you will be resurrected with him.
God brings death to our old man, our sin nature...
Before you are saved, you are controlled by your flesh.. You are controlled by the enemy.
Once you are saved, you are no longer controlled by sin, but can be by the Spirit.
However, you can let sin still have control over you.
YOU CHOOSE WETHER YOU SIN OR NOT.
You can choose who you let have power over you.
You can walk in the spirit, if you are following after Christ. If you are pursuing Christ. If you are in prayer and word…
You can walk in the flesh, if you are not walking in the Spirit. If you aren’t reading, praying, fellowshipping, you will walk in the flesh, and you will fall away.
Some of you have fallen away already because you choose not to pursue Christ… Some of you are not even saved, that ‘s just the way it is.
You need to stop letting sin have control over you.
You need to stop letting your unsaved friends have influence over you, because most of you want this, but your friends have power over you, because you want to “fit in” or “be cool.”
You can be cool all you want, it won’t matter when you’re in hell.
You’re supposed to be the light in the world, instead you let your friends shut the light out, and now you’re in darkness with them.
V.7 -
If the old man is dead, you are free from sin…
Can you say that you’re free from sin?
Not that your sinless, but that it doesn’t have power over you?
V.8-11
If your sin nature has died, you will be raised with Him.
Death has lost.. Death has no power over Jesus… We are on the winning side.
When He died, he died to destroy the power of Sin.. So no longer can sin have dominion. So now, He lives bringing glory to God.
Since Christ destroyed the power of Sin… Once you are saved, sin has no power over you and you should consider yourself dead to the power of sin.
Consider is reckon...
Which means to put to one’s account.
So it means, to believe what God say in His word is really true in your life.
You need to claim that… Sin has no power over you if you are of God.
V. 12-14
Do not let sin control you!
You can let Sin control you or you not.
You have the option.
Either you are gonna let your flesh do what it wants… Or not.
When you feel like watching porn, you have the ability to not, or you can let sin have power over you.
When you’re alone with someone, you can have the ability to not have sex…
You have the ability to say, “God bless you” instead of cussing someone out when they piss you off.
You have the ability to have a joyful attitude, instead of always being upset or hate the world.
You should be using your gifts and abilities to bring God glory.
Sin will have no power over you, because you are under God’s grace.
