2 Peter 1:12–21 NASB95
12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”— 18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. 19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
Peter is trying to point out how important the following information is to you
Being reminded of stuff is something we need to get used to and when
When are times we need to be reminded of stuff? (share with one another)
let’s remind ourselves of the Truths of
God’s divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to Life and Godliness
By God’s promises we can become partakers in the divine nature
Because of the above truths and our faith we need to supply all our effort to increasing in the virtues of: moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love.
These qualities allow us to be fruitful and useful to God in the true knowledge of Jesus. You should possess these qualities and they should be increasing in you. If you lack these qualities you have forgotten your purification from former sins.
Be diligent to make certain God’s calling and choosing you by practicing the virtues Peter lists. Practicing these virtues will keep you from stumbling
Living in this way allows us to know that the entrance to God’s eternal Kingdom will be open wide to us as we seek to enter.

Idea: Should we revisit to go along with 8-10?

12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.

12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. [I want to be that person who is ready to remind you of these things and I want you to be ready to do the same for others. Peter says that this is something he wants to do and be ready to do.]
13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, [Peter believes that they know these things and have been “established” in them. And he wants to remind them anyway]
14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. [Peter’s purpose is to work for their understanding and recall]

The strengthening is by God, the Lord, or the truth (2 Pt. 1:12), but also men (1 Th. 3:2). It may be accomplished, besought, or commanded. It presupposes that the Christians who are to be strengthened are under assault and in danger of becoming uncertain or slothful in their faith or walk

The effect or aim of strengthening is the impregnability of Christian faith in spite of the troubles which have to be endured

Closing

God wants nothing but to establish you in him for your good and His. He does this through many means including reminding us that our faith is not a philosophical one, or a logical one, but a Historical one. Our faith is grounded in History, testimony and persons who actually existed. Which also means our faith stands or falls on historic events.
