Receiving God’s Best

Intro: The gospels are full of accounts of people receiving a touch from Jesus. However, some were not healed...some did not receive a blessing. However, there were those who pressed through, those who wouldn’t give up, those who couldn’t be stopped, and those who had a supernatural faith to claim their blessing. Tonight, let’s find three (3) ways to be blessed by God. Yet, the blessing is not an end in itself…so let’s evaluate the Scripture and determine, first of all, why we should seek God’s blessings.

Text: Matt. 10:1-8 (Emphasis on 8b…freely received, freely GIVE)

I. Why We Should Seek the Blessings of God?   

 A. Is This Selfish Motivation?   

  1. It could be…for some, it is…(but we are to have the mind of Christ – Phil. 2:5; 1 Cor. 2:16)

 B. But Not for the Christian

  1. We receive, not to hoard up, but rather, to give away.

·         A battery receives voltage from an alternator and stores that power, so that when it is needed, it will have what is required of it.

  2. To preach: touch the sick, the leper, the dead, the demon possessed… “freely ye have received, freely give.”

II. Three Ways We Receive the Blessings of God

 A. The First Way to Receive the Blessing / Touch of God – Believe That He Can!   

·         Matt. 8:2 - And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

  1. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Heb. 11:1

  2. And Jesus looking upon them saith, with men [it is] impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. – Mk. 10:27

·         Notice how Christ addresses unbelief:

1.      And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. – Matt. 13:58

2.      And he marveled because of their unbelief. – Mk. 6:6

3.      Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. – Mk. 16:14

·         Michael Faraday, the great scientist, was taken ill. When it became evident that the sickness that had fastened itself upon him would soon result in his death, a group of fellow scientists came to see him--not so much to talk about science as to talk about death. One of them said to him: "Mr. Faraday, what are your speculations about your future?" With evident surprise to them he replied: "Speculations! I have none. I am resting on certainties." Then he quoted 2 Tim. 1:12: "For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day."  (committed = your deposit…not worried; as money in the bank…insured)

·         Doubt, fear and unbelief must be defeated for faith to arise in your soul.

·         We must quit putting question marks where God has put a period!

·         The First Way to Receive the Blessing / Touch of Jesus – Believe That He Can!   

 B. The next way to receive the blessing of God - Get His Word On It.

·         Matt. 8:8 - The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

·         Men who got His word in their situations: Abraham, Moses, Elijah, David, Peter, Paul…

1.      My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… - Hosea 4:6

2.      Study to show thyself approved unto God…” – 2 Tim. 2:15 (approved – dokimos- genuine)

3.      Learn to stand on the Word of God…the promises of God…claim your blessing (Abram).

a.       Heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will never pass away.

·         If God said it, that settles it.

·         If you want to receive the blessings of God - Believe That He Can!, Get His Word On It

 C. The Third way to Receive the Blessings of God is to Say YES!

·         And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. – Matt. 9:28

  1. Note how important it is for us to be in verbal agreement with God in order to accomplish His will on earth. 

   a. Salvation - You need to confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ. – Rom. 10:9

   b. Death & Life – Death and life are in the power of the tongue. – Prov. 18:21

   c. Healing - He sent His Word and healed them. - Ps. 107:20

  2. There is power in speaking the word of God; power in you speaking faith.

  3. Jesus overcame Satan by 1Affirming and 2Speaking God’s Word…He believed what He spoke.
