Keeping Up Appearances
Things are not always as they seem…In the movie, It’s a wonderful life....seemed like a bad life…what we learn is....
Connect to Advent: It’s a wonderful life - what if Jesus didn’t come.
Judge rightly - Christmas particpants. Who would have picked them? Shepherds, Mary/Joseph, Magi. They have a place in our heart because God was able to see deeper than we are.
We want celebraty endorsements. We want people who have their ‘act’ together. The Christmas story wasn’t like that.
Have you ever been chosen for a task you weren’t ready for?

“Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you looking for an opportunity to kill me?”
John 7:
A. Background
The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is trying to kill you?”
B. Crowd’s Response
Jesus answered them, “I performed one work, and all of you are astonished.
Moses gave you circumcision (it is, of course, not from Moses, but from the patriarchs), and you circumcise a man on the sabbath. If a man receives circumcision on the sabbath in order that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I healed a man’s whole body on the sabbath?

Circumcision as being part of the community

The law was to bring Life (look up ).
Jesus healed a man bring life to him on the Sabbath.

Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

Appearances can be deciving
Appearences are only “skin deep.”
Looking below the surface
The Religous leaders look good, but below the surface, not so much.
Right judgment takes place when there’s a deeper look
Why we can’t judge “rightly.”

We don’t judge becuase we get it wrong.

people who “have it together”
