Big Idea:
Before we have received Jesus our lives were contaminated with sin. Ever since we have received Him as Savior, He has purified us, and in that we believe. We are to remember that through life experiences, no matter good or bad, all things will fade but God's spoken word stands forever. And so we ought to desire that word with everything that is in us. Love without ceasing, which is the glue to holding us as the body of Christ together.
Intro:
Do you remember who you were before who have become now? You look good now everything is all good now, you got your hair done, make-up is on point, clean cut well dress, you talk like you have some sense. Since Jesus ha
The New King James Version Chapter 1
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
Do you remember who you were before who have become now? You look good now everything is all good now, you got your hair done, make-up is on point, clean cut well dress, you talk like you have some sense. Since Jesus has entered your world, you have completely changed the way you look, their has been a purification process that in believing in Jesus you have been purified. that's why you look as good as you do now, because you've been purified.
Passage Background:
Peter is writing a letter to a church thats living like aliens and are scattered.
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
The letter was written possibly between the years 62 to 64 AD.
Peter was informing the church on how to live together in unity and how they should live life as new creations of Christ.
Purified souls
1.You have cleaned up, by believing the gospel
2.sincere love- unhyprocritical love
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever
1) The spiritual life implanted by the holy spirit to produce birth, is unfailing and permanent.
2) The Spirit uses the word to produce life.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
24 because
“All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.
24 because
“All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
Peter refers to the Prophet
8 The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.”
* It's great to know that while everything else is failing around you, God's spoken word over your life is yes and amen.
1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
1 peter 2:1-3 Laying Aside
Laying Aside
A. A Christians new life can't grow unless sins renounced.
1. When that purging takes place, then the Word does His work.
B. We are told in
1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
