SINS AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT

There is the “unpardonable sin” against the Holy Spirit mentioned in Scripture.

“So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.

1“So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.

But there are other sins against the Holy Spirit. These are sins of Christians, we believers.

There is the sin of ignoring Him! How often do we feel that are sins are only the things “we do?” What about the things that we “do not do?”

How often do we feel that are sins are only the things “we do?” What about the things that we “do not do?”

We ignore Him by self-confidence.

We ignore Him when we seek understanding of divine truth from men, when the Holy Spirit wants to give it to us through God’s Word.

We ignore Him when we claim credit for what He did.

We ignore Him when we neglect to acquaint ourselves with Him in the Scriptures.

II. There is the sin of quenching the Spirit. “Do not quench the Spirit” ().

What about the sin of stifling the Holy Spirit? Many times He impresses us to do a thing and we refuse Him. He lights a light within us and we quench it/stifle it.

Many times He impresses us to do a thing and we refuse Him. He lights a light within us and we quench it/stifle it.

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

19Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

Another sin is grieving the Spirit. Paul warns us in 30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

30And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

This verse is set in the midst of a catalog of sins. Sins in a Christian life unconfessed and unforgiven and unforsaken are grief to the Holy Spirit.

Another sin is resisting the Holy Spirit.

Stephen said to his accusers, “You always resist the Holy Spirit” 51“You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you! Refusal to follow the Spirit’s leading is resisting.

51“You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you! Refusal to follow the Spirit’s leading is resisting.
Refusal to follow the Spirit’s leading is resisting.

There is also the sin of lying to the Holy Spirit.

It is a sin for qualified Christians to say, “I can’t,” when they mean, “I won’t.”

Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself.

3Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself.

There is a final, deadly sin against the Holy Spirit.

29 Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.

29Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.

The Spirit of grace is the Revealer of Christ, the Saviour. When we sin “deliberately” the Holy Spirit is “outraged,” and man’s last hope is gone. “There no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment” Scripture tell us in

Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.

26Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.

CONCLUSION: tells us: Please stand.

tells us:
