One of the great themes of this epistle is the possibility of having joy in this world, a joy that comes from God, in spite of circumstances and conditions. ()
Even though the whole world lies in the power of the wicked one () we can have a fullness of joy.
Two things to have joy:
We have fellowship with God.
We are God’s children
Three things to watch for:
we must keep the commandments
we must love one another
we must beware of false teaching: There are antichrists, there are enemies of the faith, and we must be absolutely clear and certain as to what we believe, and specially about our belief about the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
