But First, Coffee

Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

wahoo!!! Praise God that we didn’t end where Jess left us last time right?! Boy, it was down and depressing.
That being said, she made a very convincing argument about Jesus’ death.
So wait… I still have a lot of questions.

Did he really rise again?

24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”

26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Why did he die?
Why did he rise again?
Why did dying take away our sins?

Why did he have to die?

the easy “Sunday School” answer is that he had to die to take away our sins. This is good and all, but have you ever wondered how dying would take away our sins?

14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

HOLD UP! This isn’t only about heaven and hell… this is about our LIFE! Because he died, we no longer have a life of slavery! We don’t have to fear death anymore - we can LIVE, like truly and freely live today knowing that Jesus, our Lord and Savior has made a way for us to have eternal life with him forever.
Apostles’ Creed: 6 Studies for Individuals or Groups Study 4: God the Son: His Death and Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1–28)

Jesus Christ suffered and died “so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death”
